I've lived in a converted shipping container before.  They are very common as on-site accommodation at remote mining towns - furnished and with air cond, of course :-)

I've worked in a quite a few as offices. Last years Fringe Festival here in Adelaide had a whole bunch as one of its venues. Sounded good after they put carpet and blacks in the right place.

There is alot of info on shipping container living space construction. Some of the things I've seen are very modern looking and stylish. If I were going to build my own house I would seriously consider shipping containers.

In Holland it happens a lot. Amsterdam has a lot of container houses for students.

Seabox is a company that outfits containers for many different applications. Their mobile shop container is really cool.
