The Willpower has wider pole spacing, for long scale. So no good for a short scale Starfire?

This a Willpower on my Rivoli..... I can't see much diffrence with the Model 1 on the pic above......

The hideous reality we face here is where something (new) is in $, over here you knock off the "$" and replace it with a "£" -

Having used both currencies I always cringed in England when seeing this in practice. Paying half again or more for everything is not fun no matter which side of the pond you happen to hail from.

I remember when it was closer to 2-1 usd-gbp or even worse, it was still the same...

I paid £750 for my RD and case in '79 - what was the going price for an RD (list) back then...?

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

I'm going strictly from memory but I think they were around $900.

Anyone have the foggiest idea of what the exchange rate was in early '79...?

The difference in polepiece spacing between the Model One and Willpower Neck (only 1/8" total) is because of the difference in string spacing at the bridge, not scale length. Standard Fender string spacing at the bridge is wider than on 60s Gibsons. IIRC the three-point is somewhere in between.

I stand in awe...!!! I'm on-call this weekend, Phil, so I'll drink to your health at the earliest op... ;)

So... I paid $1530 when I got mine at the rate of exchange at the time... (make me all the happier when I fianally snapped up that bit of Moog circuitry and dumped it in my wheely-bin... :vader:)

The rate was about 1.72 when I got the PC in '77 so that was $309...

Hmm... which was the better deal...?

that sounds like a ton of money to pay back then.  you could have gotten three fender p's instead. (over here)

I'm dysfunctional (like my RD at this exact moment in time... ;D) - that sounds far too sensible for moi...

Forgot to add - there was an HP portion to that price, over 9 months, so that jacked the price - I have no true idea what they were going for at the time - I do know that there was a brown T'bird on the wall when I walked in, but somehow I left with the RD... (the 'Bird was s/h and no hp on 2nd hand...)

I used to have a reissue DeArmond Starfire and now I only have a very battered Epi Rivoli reissue. The sound of both aren't that different. The Rivoli has a much thinner neck and in my case one pick up.

I bought my blonde Rivoli very cheap. It had a neck repair and a Jazz-pick up underneath the chrome cover. At this moment I'm working on it, but that means I'm watching and a friend does most of the work;) It gets a Darkstar at the neck and a Duesenberg bass pick up at the bridge site. I want it at appr. the same position as the mini humbucker on the SG reissue bass. We're thinking about the controls. Maybe 2x Volume and a 3-way switch or volume, balance.

Because of the black/chrome DS and the black/chrome Duesenberg it's going to look a bit like this, stylewise:

The blonde went for £520/€614/$820
