On the way to work I saw a license plate which simply stated "Uwe". Oh, the vanity!  ;D
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?
Clocks.

That is rare! It certainly must be a rare first name in the US, it isn't even common in Germany, at least in the South. It's a nordic name by origin and I will forever associate someone blond with it - not me with my dark hair! (My parents both had dark hair, they knew what was coming, no excuses!) It gained some popularity in the late fifites, early sixties due to German soccer hero Uwe Seeler.  I was born 1960. My parents deny it, but I know they named me after him!

Why do the Japanese find Germany's relationship with Italy so fascinating?

I was born in 1961 and my first name is after my Father, but my middle name Rogerio was after Roger Maris who was chasing the home run record that year. (I was born in August)  I still say he is the legitimate home run king instead of all the steroid enhanced players who surpassed it in 1998 and 2001.  I think they should put an asterisk beside McGuire, Sosa and Bonds names for "steroid enhanced".

I find that stuff strange!

I dont get it either, but it is stereotypical ethnic humor, mixed with the history of the countries relashingships. Its become popular and they are  bringing it to the US (English dubbed). Kind of like South Park but mixing it with world history through the Japanese perspective I guess.

Many countries have German fascination, Japan being one of them, where Italy fits in this I just don't understand. I thought maybe there was something the Japanese knew about Germany's alliance with Italy to build a story around.

Agreed!

Ever seen Barry Bonds' rookie card?  ;)

Pilgrim

I heard the interesting argument today that there should be an asterisk next to every MLB record for 20+ years, since steroids were in use long before Bonds came along, and their use was widespread.  Unless you can clearly separate all the users from the non-users, I don't really see the point.

I was sure surprised seeing that tag! I work for a German/French company and so we have Europeans over here all the time but other than that tag, hadn't seen that name anywhere else but here.
Hey, being named after a soccer player isn't bad.

I'm named after the priest who married my parents but it is the French spelling, not the English version with two "n"s. People I've known for 15 years STILL misspell it. However, I find satisfaction in knowing that Debbie Harry sang a song about me.  ;D

As far as baseball goes, Sammy Sosa looks rather, uh, "special" in that after shot.

"I'm named after the priest who married my parents ..."

A priest married your parents? Both of them?  :o :o :o

Religious polygamism with both sexes. At the same time. The mind, it doth indeed boggle!  ;)
