I never had a pee bass, so some time ago I thought "what the heck, lets buy a bass kit and build one"! Thomann is selling them for 99 euros, not dirt cheap, but at least its solid wood. Ofcourse the matching of woods is terrible, so you can only do solid colors. No problem with that!
http://www.thomann.de/gr/layla_bassguitar_kit_pstyle.htmBeware, the pictures are of awful quality.
I decided to give it to my wife to paint it, I have found a nice theme, but the real problem was that I wanted to paint the pickguard too. Painting on plastic wasn't an option, so I had to make a wooden pickguard.
The man who made me the pickguard is a priest with 2 naughty daughters. We have a saying here "a priests' child is devils grandchild"...
I installed a side jack, didn't want the cable to hide the canvas!
Also since its an one-pickup bass, I decided I don't really need any controls, so check out my wiring.
So here it is, its main color is dark-slimy-rotten-green of some kind.

Didn't bother to cut the headstock, I liked it the way it was. Is there a hope for me?
SInce then I have upgraded the tuners (stock was awful), bridge (no problem with stock, just found a sturdier) and pickup (a Tonerider). I usually use 50-110 flats on this, to tame its trebly nature, but lately I strung it with a 5-string rounds set and tuned it BEAD to jam with a post-rock-sludge-doom-slow-supersatanic-whatever band. It plays ok, even if the fretwork isn't the best, but what the heck, its a pee.
And remember, this thread was Kenny's fault.
