There are plenty of people in the States who are not only comfortable with that kind of position, but who embrace it.  Gives the rest of us something to shake our heads at.

I was joking. I understand the US' drive for independence just as much as the continued empathy of the US for the old home country which saved Britain's butt twice in the last century. Two sides of the same coin. Parent-child-relationships are not always without contradictions. It did save the US from the folly that is left lane driving though!
