Thanks Scott  :)

@ Uwe:  :P   ;D        That Explorer bass is the vehicle equivalent of a Panzer tank. A real lot of fun but hard work to drive.

Credit where credit's due: In part inspired by this thread, in part due to a new set of DR Black Beauties, I rehearsed with my "Snowwhite" Ltd Ed TB on Sunday and it acquitted itself real well - throaty and full, the mids are so pronounced and cut-thru, you don't miss the presence in a band situation. I played the Ripper II immediately afterwards and while that bass is in a different league value-wise and all shiny presence and transparent, nuanced tone, it didn't stand a snowflake's chance in hell against the Epi's assertiveness. And no amount of pup switching and SVT dialing could change that.

And it does look gorgeous all white with those black strings. Plus, it fell from the stand and didn't break. Try that with a Gibson TBird!!!

I've got 'em in my Explorer which from a sound perspective must be pointed out is definitely NOT Mahogany or Korina.(pretty sure its Poplar). Big and resonant.
I like the sound they give me in this bass.
I've posted a demo on youtube if you are interested in how it sounds in a mix. To my ears and in this bass they have a pretty rich, fat sound. Not sure how relevant this is if you are wanting to put these pups in a Mahogany bass. Although I believe that a lot of the Epi T-Birds have Alder bodies?

My Epi Explorer is currently at the luthier for pimpin', so I asked him what that light, soft wood is and he said (my translation): "It's a type of "Korina", actually Limba alright. African cheapo wood you use for doors and rug beads, but definitely not poplar. Most likely some Asian Korina/Limba subspecies."
