Hey fellas, heres the deal, It seems that I can never get used to a 4 knob v/v/t/t/ control setup,
on my gibson lp it worked ok since it had the bart preamp, v/blend/bass/treble,

v/v/t/t/ to me isnt much of a tonal advantage,,  and that a fender jazz v/v/t would make a whole lot more sense.

what are your thoughts on this control scheme?

Im thinking maybe v/v/t and a 3 way switch to fill the 3rd hole. or just bite the big one and pickup a bart pre to go along with the rio grand pitbulls?  I really would like to keep it passive and simple...

Thanks

I have a few basses, but I marvel on all what those tone knobs could be for.

Playing live I find the only knob I really use with any regularity to be the tone knob, a simplified layout just "works" for me, most of my 'Birds are VVT but this one is just VT with a killswitch. It's a a little bit hotter signal than some of my other basses but that could be from the Lull pups too.

Does that mean you can't level the volume on each p-up? Are you satisfied with that solution, in that case? And what's that metal piece right behind the bridge? ???
Many question, three if I counted right. Only one thing left. Your answer, dear!

You could replace one of the two tone controls with a passive midrange control.
Or with a 3-way switch like you said.
Or with a killswitch.
Or with a blend for the pickups.
Or with a killswitch for the guitarist when he starts to solo and can't stop.

Your'll have another sound option with a serie/parallel switch

This Greek option is the most sensible function I've heard of yet.

Correct! that bass just gets played loud, subtly isn't needed if you're pushing out a 700 watt amp and a large FOH........I love it's simplicity onstage I change tone infrequentlyusually with my Line6 pedal.

The metal piece behind the bridge is an opti grab.........yes it's chrome plated  ;D

Pick up the Brosnac book, as with four holes the sky is the limit.  I can see the sexual follow-ups now.

Seriously, with the availability of stuff now that was impossible to find even 10 years ago, you can keep it simple or make it very complex, which is the idea you need to narrow down.  You could use push-pull pots, and have series/parrallel, standby, out of phase, run all four coils in series, etc.  I could go on. VVTwhatever is very easy.  I even appreciate EVH having just a volume a lot of the time.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

push pulls are definetly going to make an appearance if Im gong to be running the rio grande pitbulls since they are 4 wire, I can probably cop a sweet Jazz bass wide or a 51' p bass types of tones.

But what these lp std basses do the best is kick you in the chest like a clydesdale. so huge and thick.

I do use the tone controls. On a v/v/t/t I like to roll of the treble on the bridge pickup while keeping a bit more highs on the neck pickup.
