When shooting a TV show or movie, all the footage that's been shot during the day is processed and transferred to video or hard drives for editing. That process usually involves syncing sound to picture as well. That transfer almost always involves 'correcting' the color (turning film images into an electronic signal does funky things to the color balance in the electronic spectrum) by manipulating color balance and exposure to make the image match what the Director of Photography had in mind, so, as a colorist doing dailies, that's what I would do in a typical day or night's work.

With the advent of super fast and efficient computers and non linear editing systems (as well as the amount of broadcast/ and feature material now originated on HD video), the business model for my particular job has changed immensely over the last 18 months, so I'm currently trying to figure out what to do next. But you're right, I ran through a lot of footage over the last 14 years!
