No, they actually did built these for a time. Weird-looking.
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

I haven't seen one of those come up in awhile and had quite forgotten them, to my knowledge it's a purpose - built righty. Perhaps George (Old Man C ) can chime in here with some nuggets of 'Ho wisdom too.
Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

Man, I got all excited thinking another one of these had appeared:

I don't know whether Nikki Sixx inspired those or was inspired by them, but he had a few upside-down birds in the late 80's and early 90's. There were more of those floating around eBay around 2004-2006, but I haven't seen many lately. Then again, I haven't kept as close an eye on the bay either.

I'll have to dig up pics, but I think in that era there were a few other ho-birds from Japan that had the same shape.

Here's one of Nikki's Spectors:

Holy crap!  I've never seen that before.  Didn't even realize they had made an NR copy.

I do recognize the floor, though  :)

That Greco's really nice. They even used the two-screws p-u. Nice! Any info on them?

Basvarken

Well, basically it is the same bass as the Greco Reverse Thunderbird.
The rectangular tailstop, the three point bridge, the two nickel humbuckers with two screws, the controls, the pots, the set neck, the neck profile, the machine heads.

Except for the shape of the body of course.
Plus it's more rare.

Thanks! Any ideas concerning numbers made, when, and price?

OldManC

No idea on original price, but the seller claimed it was ordered as a one off and they were never mass produced. I'd be bummed except we have the Bach now!

Dave W

I can't imagine a company like Greco doing a one-off as a custom order, although it could have been a prototype. More likely it was a small run that was unsuccessful. In any case it couldn't have been a big run or we would have seen more of them.

OldManC

I agree, Dave. That's the only one I've ever seen. My bet would be prototype.

Good call. My lefty Greco SG came off that same showroom floor!

Gave it to my lefty daughter & she just sold it. Alas
So I gave her an SX P & that's her last gift for a long while.
