I figured it would be a good idea to post a prog rock classic

"Squonk" as performed during the 1980 "Duke" tour. One of the best ever performances of this song.

I love Rutherford's playing on this one, those crazy etherical chords and that twangy bassline. He switches necks a couple of times in this performance and that Shergold double neck sounds mighty fine also.

Good times for Genesis for sure. I saw that tour and it was excellent.

It's all before Phil ruined the bands name.

Great song and footage.  I love that era of Genesis.

... and this era as well  :)

I liked Mama off of the "Genesis" LP, but it's hit or miss for me after that (Phil Collins solo work inclusive).

OMG, Gabriel was just a kid back then!

Certainly when you compare him to what he looks like now.

The Complete Genesis (Well, minus Ray Wilson) From left to right: Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips (Guitarist on the first two albums), Mike Rutherford, John Silver (Drummer on "Tresspass") and Phil Collins.

Wow- Steve Hackett hasn't even moved since the shoot of that video that I posted!  ;D

We all turn grey and lose hair, but Peter Gabriel still has charmingly lively eyes.

He's not the kind of player that moves around a lot. But at least he made an efford after the "Lamb lies down on Broadway" tour when he abandoned sitting down on stage.

The Ric in the video that Joe posted - I suppose it's the same one that got butchered to make the double-neck?

Nope. Because that double neck frankenstein had neck bindings and triangular inlays. And added to the fact that pictures of the "Selling England by the pound" tour show the double neck and the sunburst rick side by side comfirms that it's not the same bass.

I saw Gabriel in the early '80s, and he was moderately animated for that tour.  He even braved walking out over the crowd, letting them pass him from person to person.
I was going to school where he performed (UIC in Chicago), and walked in to watch the full sound check early in the afternoon.

Check this out, this was Gabriel's encore on his first solo tour and he performed this Genesis classic really frenzied.

He even seems out of breath at a couple of moments during this rendition.
