It was time for a change, those hollowbodies I had up there were getting boring so I took a couple from my 20 SG shape basses and hung them up ...

From left to right:

- Seventies EB-0 with Warwick bridge, RD Standard extra pup, refinned ivory (you can even tell on this pic how much fatter those seventies models were, real tanks)
- Melody Maker in CAR,
- Satin SG Supreme
- EB-6, stripped by pre-owner, but nice job,
- they shoot basses in Texas, don't they?
- the object of ze Herr Moderator's regular, if unwarranted derision: banana SB 450,
- it's another Tequila Sunrise ... Ebay Giveaway of Month
- batteries included: EB-0F (eternal thanks to Chris who made me aware of this one even though I still keep the bike my grandfather confiscated from his grandfather in the cellar ...)

Nice looking bunch you have there.
Is that the EBOF that was just on ebay?
I wanted to bid but I have a custom I have to finish paying for before I stat looking for the next one.

uwe

No, it was an off-Ebay sale from a Bath (UK) guitar shop.

This photo could be made a part of an IQ test where you're asked to determine which of the objects don't belong with the rest of the group.

But it won't happen, because the SB 450 is too obvious.  :P

MattK

How does that SB 450 compare to it's brethren? I've never played one and I've always wondered what they're like.

Beautiful collection, by the way!

gotta say, the tequila sunrise finish looks pretty good in context of the photo you posted.  when I see 'em on ebay or whatever, they look kind of cheesy  :-\.  is the Texas Sharpshooter bass long scale?   can't recall from the old dp discussion.

Foul pitcalls of an elderly gentleman notwithstanding, the 350/450 series is not the cheapo product everybody seems to think. Set three-piece maple neck, three pont bridge and two minibuckers make these basses structurally more valuable than a Grabber with its one piece bolt-on maple neck, single pup and horrible Fender rip-off bridge is. Yes, it has a control cavity up front for ease and swiftness of production, but so did the Rippers,G-3s and Grabbers. The cheap slab look comes mainly from the lack of bevelling at the cutaways.

The SB-450 sounds nothing like a mudbucking EB, but more like an alder body Ripper (the SB 450 has an alder body too) with a bit more punch and shine via the (plain Jane looking, but not bad sounding) black plastic  ;D minibuckers. I have mine strung with flats and it sounds similar to my 1976 fretless Ripper (ignoring the fretted/fretless difference) or like a tame Rickenbacker or Jazz Bass.

Jules used to have soundclips of this bass on his site

http://www.gibsonbass.com/SB450_1.php

but they are gone.  ???

I'm not saying this is Gibson's classiest model, but it's nothing to be ashamed about either. Between the long scale 450 and the short scale 350 I would always prefer the former, neck heavy as it is, because of the rear pup's better positioning (read: farther away from the bridge).

They are....looking awesome Uwe. Even if I can't really get behind the short scale thingy, they're still very cool.  :)

Yup, the Texas sharpshooter was originally an EB-0L, that is also why that Victory bridge seems just about to fall off its butt.  :D

The Tequila Sunrise doesn't look plastic in real life at all - that fin is flawless, rich and with a deep luster. Also, you can't argue with black, red and gold - schwarz, rot , gold - zey are ze cölörs of our fläg!  ;D The new one, I hasten to add!

Missed this one. Great!!

About shooting and basses: I'll visit your office within some weeks. Is it allright if I bring a gun? I'll just shoot to that wall blindfolded and I keep the bass I hit!

gweimer

It wouldn't be the first bass on that wall that's been shot.    ;D
