This is for all you WWI & WWII war buffs out there-

Only in Japan can they make an anime were each character represents a country during WWI- II in such a stereotypical way. This is actually a new show.

This episode features Germany finding Italy hiding in a box.

Hetalia Axis Powers (???? Axis Powers?) is a manga and anime series by Hidekaz Himaruya placed in a World War-era setting in which the countries are represented by anthropomorphic characters. Hetalia (?????) is a made-up word combining hetare (????) – Japanese for useless – and Italia (?????). This is to make light of Italy's apparent cowardice during World War II.

The Italians weren't cowards, just sensible and recognizing a crap cause when they saw it. An observation that largely escaped us until it was way too late. I'll always give the Italians credit for the fact that it was their very own Fascist party that ousted Mussolini and reinstalled the king in 1943. They put the future of their own country over ideology. Unthinkable in Germany with the NSDAP.
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Mussolini was reincarnated as Alexei Sayle.

Well the Korerans had the show cancelled as it caused an international uproar.

As explained previously, it seems the locus of Korean outrage was the portrayal of Korea as a nation intent on claiming all and sundry as being either its invention or its territory; the breast grabbing scene where Korea seizes Japan's chest (thought to represent Dokdo/Takeshima) is the main example of such. Of course, things could hardly be further from the truth?

QuoteIn an outrageous attack on freedom of speech, nationalistic Korean protests have forced the upcoming satirical WWII anime Hetalia Axis Powers off the air entirely; the issue was even taken up in the National Assembly, where the anime was denounced as being "equivalent to criminal conduct", such was the hysteria against any possible affront to Korea's dubious claims over Dokdo/Takeshima.

Craven broadcaster Kids Station apparently felt they had no option but to cave in to the Korean claims of "discrimination", despite the anime apparently not even including the elements which upset the hypersensitive nationalists.
