Dare I say it's fugly...

That's not really close to a Fender VI. Has a Strat-type bridge/tremelo, the pickup switches are a single Strat-type, and it has Strat pickup arrangement(slanted bridge pickup), and it even looks like the "control plate" is actually just a differently painted part of the pickguard, looks like it has guitar strings too.

I always thought the guitar was cool, being an impressionable kid in high school. I first discovered it with Todd Rungren, which fit perfectly with the whole glam thing, to me. I have fond memories of the music made with that guitar.

With my friends it is customary to buy silly things for each other's birthday. You go to one of them shops where they have all sorts of nick nackeries. You buy an ugly reproduction of "the boy with the tear" or the "gypsy girl". Or you buy old vinyl records of "Henk Wijngaard" or "Racey".

Guilty pleasures: I always liked Racey ...  They are also the original inventors of ZZ Top's later stage moves though Racey were a bit more youthful/less laid back in approach!
