Sad, his sound was a very important part of the Floyd' sound.

He was no Emerson, Wakeman or Lord technically, but he played with a nice inimitable bluesy feel even on the more experimental Floyd stuff. If Waters was the lyrics and Gilmour was the voice and melody of Pink Floyd, Mason the heartbeat, then Wright was the atmosphere. Wish you were here - still my favorite Floyd album by a stretch - would be unthinkable without his contribution. He really had the knack of building things up.


Wish you were here, Rick, but do say hello to Syd.
