fender flatwounds-shortscale

Anybody ever cut a set of Fender long scale flatwounds to fit a shortscale bass? They are only made in longscale--I just wondered if the outer wrapping is stable as on roundwounds, or if it would unravel???

I haven't done it but there is a trick for this: Mark the spot where you are going to cut the string and solder it with a solder gun. I hope that makes sense...

Your can cut them but they will unravel. you can solder them, but a better idea is to buy a 30" set.

Go to this site-they have a lot of 30" string. Torn, the owner, is a great guy. Send him a note if you have any questions. Tell him Dr. Baseman sent you!

In Holland it's impossible to get a set of shortscale strings. And just don't ask about mediumscale. But fortunately there's internet with some nice German string shops who have a lot.

well...

Just went off on a 90 degree angle, and string it up with Ernie Ball super slinkies...not sure why, ... I hadn't remembered how nice these feel when they're new...(yes I did cut long scale strings-but I have done this for years with EB strings)

Might almost be worth it to make an effort to change strings more often.
