Hard for red to fade when it isn't there to begin with. I had a highway 1 Jazz that looked like that under the guard. Nice enough bass but does Fender save enough money to justify not following through on making a proper complete paint job?

What did they do, buy it then shrink wrap it in plastic and store in it's case for the last 48 years? Very nice bass but I could not see buying it as I would never play it out or at all really. Wouldn't want to be the one that took a bass in that condition then get it worn by playing it.

For the neck to remain that pale I assume it has never been exposed to any UV light.

My worry would be that the pickguard has probably been shrinking all this time, and the trussrod might be seized due to lack of use. There is something to be said for a bass that has had the bare minimum of servicing and attention?

My 70s parts P has a real 60s tort guard, it has shrunk a little bit but can still fit the original screw holes in the body, with maybe two screws slightly angled.

I wouldn't worry about the truss rod. Olivia's Vintage has a top notch reputation. They'll check it if you ask and they stand behind what they sell.

My '63 P has the original tort pickguard. It has shrunk a bit but all the screws are in place. I believe it helps if the PG stays installed.

I've still got my old 72 Pbass . It was pristine when I bought it , now it looks like it went through the Boer War.
I traded a Nikon F2 with an 85/1.8 for it back around 74/75 .
I had just joined a touring band and needed a real bass quick . I was told to go for an audition , as it turned out I was the only one that did . I got the job .
Funny ... I've been playing ever since .
