Gibson Basses / Re: Burgundy NR Thunderbird
Last post by godofthunder - November 11, 2024, 04:14:34 AM
Beautiful NR congratulations!I have both a Inverness Green and Sparkling Burgundy, the Inverness I modded the crap out of, the Burgundy I left stock. I'm resisting the urge to put a 60's tailpiece on it. ;D
Gibson did a good job with these, give it a big headstock, 60s style bridge and correct pickguard shape it'd be damn near perfect.

The Fender Jazz locations have become almost the standard. Leo has won. I like single coil real neck pickups, the Pictures Of Home bass solo tone, but we're a minority. Even Glover has switched over to J locations.

There's now a symbol on the toolbar to insert a link. Just click on it, add your URL, put a description, insert, and your description will appear as an underlined link. No need for a long URL.

There's now a YT button on the toolbar. Click it, add the Share URL from the video. insert, and the video appears instead of just an URL.

The reissues placed the pickups closer into Jazz bass territory , and simplified the knobs. I think they were made in Singapore rather than Japan too.

Korg USA were selling off Darkglass MicroTube 200 amps for $200 , US only , but I managed to have a friend in the US forward one here. I didn't need any more amps , but I like Darkglass amps and couldn't resist the deal.I like little 200 watt size heads for rehearsals/home practice. I,ve picked up several at this point.
That's the only gear purchase I've made in the recent past. Sold one bass , might sell several more , might sell some extra amps ... we'll see. Not under any pressure to downsize , other than room.

The bridge pickup is very Jazzy but the neck pickup, positioned at the end of the neck, sounds more like a Ric toaster.

Mine are reissues with the standard vvt controls. And 34 scale.
A friend described one as a Jazz bass on steroids , and regretted selling the one he had.

I'm mostly using short scales , but whenever I pick up a Samurai I'm impressed with how comfortable they feel and play.  TI flats on one , well broken in rounds on the other.
