The Outpost Cafe / German cooking ;)
« on: January 31, 2015, 12:52:06 PM »

I haven't made Sauerbraten for at least two years..........It's so GOOD!

Here's 5lbs. of Chuck Roast (It pays to have a good butcher nearby!) in marinade, I started it last Sunday......

And last night after cooking 3 hrs with some Rot Kraut and two different kinds of Potato Dumplings. SO YUMMY!

The Outpost Cafe / Pics or it didn't happen..........
« on: October 06, 2014, 10:52:16 AM »

You know how that goes, especially here on the Interwebz. Nobody would believe that our moderator was actually in Seattle, WA. of all places, unless of course there were some good evidence - Here you go, one undercover Drag Queen, one German Lawyer and a 15 year old Blue Subaru  ;D
Thank you Uwe and Edith for a wonderful evening, both Alison and I truly enjoyed meeting you both. This is one case of the Internet leading to something very nice. Uwe is a very warm, engaging and friendly man, the four of us conversed for three hours over dinner in a nice downtown Seattle eatery, they good naturedly heard my rusty German and kept smiling.
We'll spend some more time later this week, there's basses to be played!

Gibson Basses / Babicz 3 Point Bridge FCH-3
« on: August 08, 2014, 09:49:07 AM »

One of my subjects posted this in the Thunderbird thread on TB, I must say I find it far more appealing visually than a Hipshot - It's nice to see somebody make something that looks like it belongs on the bass.
Kudos Babicz!
Here's a pic in black just to appease Herr Gruppenfuhrer - thankfully it's available in CHROME too.

The Outpost Cafe / 45 years ago......................
« on: July 27, 2014, 08:31:52 AM »

I was almost 11 years old when this took place about 5 miles from my parents house - It's not much noted in Pop history but there is quite a list bands, including Led Zep. I easily recall being able to hear it while playing outside that weekend......

The white dome structure is where I saw Slade a few years later.

This link is pretty good, it was quite an event. Nowadays the area is very built up with tech industries, (including the Nampeg folks!) and several famous Wineries, most notable being Chte. Ste. Michelle, who put Washington State on the world map of Wines.

The Bass Zone / Halloween 2013
« on: October 25, 2013, 10:03:11 AM »

Away I go - to the wilds of Sequim, WA. to play 10/26 for the Halloween weekend, we expect about 2200 folks at the show, I'll try to get a few shots of the venue beforehand, it's a great place to play with a first class sound system and crew, big stage with lots of lights - we actually look like a rock band, lol! I have three basses and three clothing changes set up for the night.....
Have my laptop and iphone so I'll be in touch!  ;)

The Outpost Cafe / '66 Pontiac GTO
« on: October 06, 2013, 11:39:56 AM »

This past weekend I got visit with my buddy Bill, he's a model railroader and, being originally from Galesburg, Il. quite the vintage car guy.
This is his 1966 Pontiac GTO, with a 389ci Tri-Power motor, completely restored - at one point the entire car and engine were parts. Engine is all rebuilt, the interior all restored, body metal all straightened and repainted, bumpers and trim re-chromed (This is why chrome rules, get it?) and of course a custom plate. Bill's dedication to a great job is amazing....and this isn't his only restoration, there are 3 '70's era Firebirds and at least 7 '60's - '70s era BSA and Triumph motorcycles in the garage as well!

Champagne Gold with factory wheels and white walls...........He's had some Red Lines on it too.

Nice plate!

U.S. metal at it's best!

No black hardware here!

Super clean interior too.

The Outpost Cafe / Battle of Britain day 09/15/2013
« on: September 15, 2013, 11:00:37 AM »

Today's the day. 73 years age the Luftwaffe launched it's largest day raid on London- considered the climax of the summer's actions over England.
I admire the courage of the men that flew the planes, the many women that served in the radar installations and of course the civilians that endured.

Gibson Basses / Different black plastic pups ;)
« on: June 04, 2013, 05:09:36 PM »
Here's a variation on black plastic pups I hadn't seen........

It would be interesting to take one apart, that makes four variations in pick up design post '88

The Outpost Cafe / New store different Aircraft ;)
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:43:31 AM »
I mentioned awhile back that after 9 years at Seattle Lighting Southcenter location I had transfered to our store in Tacoma (about 25 min. south of Seattle) so far it's been good for me. It's interesting tho, both stores are in proximity to airfields, Southcenter is in Boeing Field's flightpath, so lots of commercial aircraft and the occasional odd B-17 could easily be seen from the store. Tacoma is close to McChord AFB with lots of Military traffic, yesterday with much noise overhead I noted these 7 C-17's ( Talk about BUFF's!) in a loose Line Astern heading north, running an exercise I guess. Never a dull moment in Tacoma  ;)

Gibson Basses / Current Gibson Date codes
« on: May 09, 2013, 08:17:56 AM »

Did we figure out Gibson's current/recent date code system?

My most recent point of reference is my '08 Nikki Sixx 020080389, then stamped Made in USA 2008, I *think* more recent production is different yet again. Can we discuss?

The Outpost Cafe / 40 Years ago
« on: April 25, 2013, 08:13:45 AM »

It's hard for me to realize.......40 years ago about this time of year I went to my first concert, 13 years old in the Spring of 1973, it was also my first date, I still remember her name too - Barbie Kost  :)
For anybody here that's ever wondered how I could turn out the way I did, well, I give a lot of the credit to Alice, there's no time like your first time - His show is the one I judge all others against (others fell so far short! notably Led Zeppelin) it left a lasting impression on me, made only stronger by the likes of Slade and KISS. I remember tickets were the kingly sum of $5.00 apeice, thanks Alice, the memories last!
I always knew this was the best Alice Cooper albums/ Lineup
