Might very well be. No one who is not deaf or at least hard of hearing could have stood JAE's latter day sound, it was horrible.

That'd be me then. Love his sound in later years (as well as his 70's Alembic era), and I'm definitely hearing damaged from years of playing music. 

I want to build a Darryl Jenifer tribute parts bass with a graphite neck and I'll be putting as old as set of EMG J pickups in it as I can find.

And the Geezer sig P pickup does sound great and I'd like to try it too.

Are there any cool TBird pickup covers besides the current black plastic and the aftermarket chrome/nickel covers?

I'm looking for retro looking covers that aren't the two above. Anything out there?

Dang, I like how this sounds.

I came across a lefty EB bass in a store today. I'm not in love with the look but I hadn't seen a lefty before so I gave it a try. To my surprise, it's a very nice bass. Plays nice, sounds quite good plugged in and weighs 7.45 lbs. on my digital scale. Very comfy.  It a satin finish sunburst.

I'm wondering if anyone has done any mods to their EB basses to tweak their looks?
Elephant ear tuners, chrome pickup covers, different knobs, etc.

Also how much work would it be to turn the satin finish into a typical gloss finish?

I will do that, thank you. Likely in the back half of 2014. One of my other bands just put out a 7" so that'll be seeing the support for the next short while.
