Yes. And my internet at home is so crappy (barely faster than dial-up) that my computer times out before I can upload anything.

Ok so what are y'all doing for photo hosting now? P-bucket isn't working, and literally all the other sites I've tried to use are blocked here at work  :P
I tried to upload the pics right off my phone, but apparently they're too big, and I'm too old to figure out how to resize them on the phone (ugh). I will keep messing with it and see if I can post them.

So my hours at work changed again, so I had 40 min. of free time before work today. Just enough time to check out a guitar store near work that I hadn't been to before (Capitol Guitar in St Paul)
They had some interesting stuff, including this "no name" semi hollow bass:
That's what the tag said, "No name"... Anyway it looks fairly recent, the pups look like the "mini humbucker" style like my Gretsch had (and there's plastic still on them) It's kinda heavy, so I'm guessing it's got a center block or something. The tailpiece is real close to the bridge, so I'm wondering if that isn't stock. I should go back next week and see what I can trade my Hondo jazz for it...
Thanks, in advance, guys!

I have a set of these on my long-suffering Hondo Jazz project. I got them hoping they'd be similar to the mini-hums that were on my Electromatic, but they don't sound the same. They are cheap, though... There is a link to  a set of pups that look (a little)like the "staple" pups found on lots of import basses, I had a set of those on my Hondo for a while, too. (THey were supposedly from a Hofner Icon, but they're all over the bay for about the same $. So if you're buying something just to rewind it, I would guess this is a good start. (My bass is dead again, and I don't wanna mess with it )

I'm a HUGE Matsumoku nerd. I probably could go on and on about these, but I'll try to keep it short: At some point in the late 70's Mats. started a Korean factory, and they made a bunch of their designs "over there" to kinda test out everything. That's where the "Hondo Professional" stuff came from. (I have a "Skylark" guitar, and a "HIIP" guitar, and they're 90% similar- the difference is kinda like a "Custom Shop" whatever vs. a Squier/Epi) Mats. was no different than other Japanese companies, they made stuff for whoever hired them, so one design could have 14 different brand names on it. Oh, and they made neck-thru, set-neck and bolt-on ("Bayonet mount") stuff all in the same design guitars, like the Skylark I have.

Have you all seen that video with the bluegrass sounding band with the Tractor as a backing instrument? Could we get the Tractor and the Washer together as sort of "double drummer" thing?

All we get at my house, are Garter snakes, about as big around as my pinky. But I bet it's a ...bit colder than where you are. I'd love to see more interesting wildlife, but I'm glad nothing here is poisonous. (Because I'm the dummy who'd get bit while trying to take pictures of them  )
We have Moles, our lawn looks terrible because of all the holes and tunnels everywhere, so all we need is to send your guy to "summer camp" up here, and we'd be fine!

There's a giant pile of unused mouse pads at work, maybe I can "recycle" them  8)

THe pups are new(ish) ones from ebay, guitar mini humbuckers, and they SAID they were potted already... but who knows, for the couple $ I paid for them. IT wasn't that they squealed or made feedback when I was playing, I either get silence or EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE thru the amp, depending on if I wiggle the cord... Unplugged on the couch it's OK  but if I try to play thru the amp I don't get any sound. Ugh. This isn't Rocket Surgery, so I don't know why I'm having so much trouble with this (well, other than that I don't actually know what I'm doing  )

So I actually had the house to myself for a couple hours last night, I could drag the amp out and play loud. (The baby cries when I "plug in" and the 3-year old will actually go turn my amp off if I have it on... Perhaps some lessons might be in order? :o  ) My JBP has the same "Select" pups as the Austin, so I had to A-B them. They sound... similar (to my untrained ears anyway) but the Austin is easily twice as loud. When I put the pups in, I used the foam pieces that came under the stock pups, so they sit up nice and high. I just realized I haven't touched the pups on the JBP, and they sit pretty low compared to the guard

So what does everybody like for under pups? Does it HAVE to be foam, or can I use something else? (or, y'know, just leave it alone, and turn the amp up higher  )
I didn't weigh the basses, but the Austin is really light compared to the others. The Hondo is the heaviest, but not by much, compared to the JBP.
Oh, speaking of the Hondo, it worked OK when I picked it up from the store, but now when I plug it in, it just howls feedback, instead of sounding like a bass... I'm kind of tired of rewiring it, and the store guys had it for about 6 months the last time (and I don't reall want to spend more than I paid for it, again, to get it re-wired...again) I'm starting to see why people just save up the $ to buy something that already works. Oh, and my Douglas EB-2 copy, now sounds like it's strung with rubber bands, it just kind of "thuds" anywhere on the fret board instead of sounding like it should. I tried loosening the strings, and re-tightening them, but it still doesn't sound right... ugh. I joke about trading everything, but now I really want to.

So it's done...

I just took a little off the sides of the control route, enough so the components sit down like they're supposed to. I still had a set of the flatwounds I got from Carlo, so those went on. It sounds good, it's fun to play with the Varitone, it feels like it weighs half of what my (all maple) JB Player or my Hondo weighs. So, I call this a Win.

That red Hondo looks nice! The "Fame" ones are newer than what I have (from my semi-educated guess), or at least their "nicer" series of stuff, the one I have is the same as the hundreds of "off brand/no name/Ibanez/whatever basses, I've seen tons of different branded, but identical looking ones online. Maybe I could find a neck from one of those, if this one gets more out of whack...

Strings exit from the BOTTOM of the shaft, not the top.

THat makes total sense now. Thank you! I will try to re-wrap these when I'm home next.

Stew-Mac is closing them out. Other Select models are also on closeout.

I just checked them out. THese are new, and going for about half of what used ones are selling for on the bay right now... Glad I got mine a couple years ago (for $1.00!) If I needed any more projects, I'd scarf them up.

45
If you wind your strings DOWN the tuner shaft instead of up, you won't need that dime, and you won't have any problem with the E-string popping out of the slot.

Can you explain this? DO you mean turn them the opposite way that they are going now?  ??? I guess I don't quite understand. I've had a few guitars, but this one is basically the only one with the tuners you poke the string down the hole, the rest of them have the "hole thru the shaft" type. So I guess I could have strung it up wrong...
