Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson LP Bass pickups

So are there many different sizes of TB pickups, then? The more I read about this, the more confused I get... (leave the building to the pros, Daan... :))

I thought I read somewhere that the pole pieces don’t necessarily HAVE to be right under the strings, so if I used a 6-pole “guitar” pickup in my bass, it would still work. Again, “I could be wrong”...

Eight O'Clock isn't owned by Folger's, never has been. It has been owned by Tata Tea of India for years. It's still good coffee, not as good as Caribou but miles above Folger's or Maxwell House.

First music celebrity coffee I heard of was Bun E. Carlos' Bun E Blend. Don't know if it's still available.

Ah. My roasting buddy told me that Folgers bought out a bunch of smaller brands, and 8 o’clock was one he mentioned. I guess I never thought to actually check, before I posted... (I should end all my posts with”I could be wrong”, ha ha

Gibson Basses / Gibson LP Bass pickups

What are the pickups in the Les Paul basses? Are they the same size and construction as "guitar" humbuckers, or are they something completely different? I've only ever really seen pictures of these basses, I've never actually handled one...
I had a Hondo Jazz copy, with humbuckers (sort of mini-HB sized) and I'd kind of like to make something like that again, except this time with good materials. I saw an unrouted J-bass body online, and I could probably get a standard HB routing template and not screw it up too badly... and there are eleventy-billion flavors of guitar HB's, so I'm sure I can find something I like. Unless LP basses are something different, and I'm barking up the wrong tree...

I love coffee. With my weird work hours and long commute, I drink WAY more than I should... A good freind of mine was a coffee roast master at Caribou Coffee in Minneapolis for years and years, so I've gotten some REALLY good stuff. (He works for Peace Coffee now, they do good stuff too)
8 o'clock WAS good coffee, until they got bought by Folger's. Now it's not any better than Folgers is.
It seems that lots of music people are selling coffee now. Green Day has some, I was just at a "Drive By Truckers" show and they had their own coffee, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. So I wonder if when marijuana is legal everywhere, will more than just Snoop Dogg and Willie start selling that stuff, too?

OK, so there's a website that will do nationwide searches of Goodwill stores (for you out-of-towners, Goodwill is where people donate unwanted stuff, and it gets resold and the $ is supposedly used for charity. I've heard stories that they only give a tiny percentage of what they make, but I'm not an expert, or anything.)
Anyway, I like looking on there for stuff. About a million years ago, I got an Ovation Viper, with case, for $20 that I played for years. And, once I found the website, I got a couple Harmony/Silvertone lap-steel guitars, and sold the pickups (the "gold foil" ones all the kids go nuts for) for $ for my projects. So I just saw what looks like an Ibanez IC-300 bass. Has anyone on here had one of these, are they good? Right now the bidding is at $99, and these seem to sell for around $300. Assuming it isn't unrepairably broken, and the bidding doesn't go nuts it looks really interesting.
I haven't played one in person, but I've always been interested in these. A freind had the guitar version, a real one from the 70's with the weird triple size humbucker and it was cool.

Of course the bass I posted was gone when I went back. I keep looking around for stuff like this, and nothing shows up here (well, nothing I can afford ) And then I keep playing my $40 Austin P-bass that honestly there isn't anything it doesn't do, that I need it to. But that little voice in my head saying "Hey, it's one of a billion P copies, and you know you want an EB-2 or a NR..." ugh. I did try out an Artcore (Actually I had an Artcore, about 10 years ago, it was really nice. But I had to sell it (and a bunch of other stuff) to pay my daughter's hospital bills. The new Artcores are nice, other than the weird fake relicking they had. http://www.ibanez.com/usa/news/f_products/2016/vintage/artcore-bass.php

That's 'cause Matsumoku made, like, 54326257624562 versions of these. I have a guitar like this, and the body is "caving in"- the neck joint has a tiny little block in it, and the body is completely hollow. I keep seeing these at stores, for unreal prices-$4,5,600. And almost all of them have the 3/4" action, or are missing parts. So maybe I should go sell my guitar, if it's really worth that much...

This is such a great picture, I kinda want a nice, framed copy in my music room! I'm a sucker for non-beatle-bass Hofners, and modern design, so this hits all my buttons. Awesome!

I had no idea they still existed.

THey put out a record a couple years ago, with the "Franz Ferdinand" guys, it's fun to listen to.

Dumb question: Why's it called a "Hobbit"?

But that upper horn sure doesn't look good. All wobbly curve without nice tension.

Yeah, it does kind of look like it got stung by something, and swelled up, doesn't it?

I guessed it might be a fake Cassidy bass, so while putzing around the net I found THIS
https://airline-guitars.netfirms.com/savannah_std.html
Maybe whatever factory in China made the guitars, they ran off a bunch of "no name" copies to sell themselves. Or something...
The next time I work "in town" I'll go check it out again. My Hondo isn't playable again, and I'm real tired of working on it, so I'll see what they say about trading them. I figure, I'll be able to find another J bass copy if I get the urge, but EB-2 style basses are kinda thin on the ground by me.

I promise I'm never gonna make fun of my parents for not being able to program their VCR again! I'm sure someone who knows what they're doing could have posted these in about 30 seconds, and not the 90 minutes I've been working on this...
