Fender Basses / Re: Sheehanize a P/J ??

How about this to start with?

http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0326902500

I like its looks and it got a very good review in Gitarre & Bass magazine, neck is modern, not the halved baseball bat of old P/Telecaster basses. You could probably use the cavity for the (real) mudbucker and still have lots of room for other pups.

That's really odd, Uwe. The other day you couldn't see a pic that was directly uploaded as an attachment. But the (first) Kim Gordon photo isn't an attachment, it's hosted on Sonic Youth's own website.

Ach Herr Moderator, are we a bit slow today?  ;D I didnt say I don't see the bass' G string (I see and saw that fine, thank you), I said I don't see her G string. She would have to turn around for that I guess. That is why my post was headed "worn G string".

Gold knobs - it's more sixties and goes well with the purdy pelham.

Gibson Basses / Worn G Strings ...

My computer issues continue to baffle me, I don't see Ms Gordon's G string in that pic, most unfortunately so.  :-\

I can already see you all frothing at my choice (with Mark putting in some consoling and supportive words  ;D), but I stand unrepentant: "Tammy", the TV series from the sixties. I loved (and love) that melody. Scroll to the end of this page for a listen:

And to make matters worse I also liked the music/muzak (and, jawohl, the stories too) in Streisand's and Redford's "The Way We Were" and in Christie's and Sharif's "Dr Zhivago".

I actually remember these (or at least dogs that looked a lot like them and probably had some of their genes) from Zaire. While the urban Africans were not fond of dogs which they forever identified with colonial oppression you did see quite a few of them roam the streets in packs. I always thought back then they were mutts  :-[ :-[ :-[ (some of them probably were) and it's right they did not bark.

Of course, now I know I should have grabbed a few and traded them against John's Fenderbird!

Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson cheats winner, because of Hip Hop?
« on: January 28, 2008, 07:01:16 AM »
My remark "hiphop has nothing to do with it" wasn't aimed at you guys, you're free to poke fun at hiphop guys (I kind of stopped listening to the genre after Grandmaster Flash though I do like some Eminem stuff and come to think of it some Snoop Dog songs too), especially as most of them are always so dead serious about their art (most hiphop artists have about as much selfreflection as Ted Nugent), but against the between-the-lines-race-whine of the hiphopper who insinuated "I'm hiphop = black = therefore a whitey company from Nashville is trying to cheat me". That is crap.

I can't believe they would fire or even suspend her for something like that. If her pupils knew/know youtube, I don't think they found anything in that (heavy-handed) clip they didnt know of before.

I really like the current fin and the way it is worn - very naturally aged. But if you must refin it, I'd do what you like and something personal.

The PLEK machinery is used on Gibson custom shop stuff and on all Warwick basses and Framus guitars. I've only heard rapturous things about it (from players, manufacturers and in magazines) - the difference is supposed to be night and day and it does away with even the most resistant buzz prone "evil spots" on the fretboard. While the PLEK machine works, strings are kept on the bass under full tension. All you have to do is say how low you want the frets before the process starts.

Grear score btw!

Gibson Basses / Re: Look at that price tag!

I'm beginning to consider myself lucky for having bought my four sixties TBs at a time when I already considererd them heftily priced, but a bargain by today's standards. And that was only a few years ago. :o

Gibson could have handled it better - more customer-friendly and that includes difficult or even greedy customers too. But it has nothing to do with hiphop for chrissssakes. I agree about the MSRP and btw there is a German saying "einem geschenkten Gaul schaut man nicht ins Maul" (never look at the teeth of a horse (to check age) that you have received as a present).

Yes, there would have been room between the 15th and 12th fret.
