This forum has a tried and trusted, albeit sad tradition in failing to realize the magic that was Strappps ...

I didn't know that TV footage of them even existed. Nice Ric sound too. And what a handsome chap Ross Stagg (singer, guitarist and chief songwriter) was! You'd never know he was Australian really. Aussie Roo'n'Rollers generally look like people that play in AC/DC or - worse still - Airbourne (ducking from the boomerangs ...).

I just erased a long diatribe about one of the previous videos.
I like this board and don't want to turn this thread into a basher, but listening to Paul Stanley trying to speak the language of the uprights (before I have breakfast) is a no-no.  What a hairy little tool. The bass playing in that video is quite good.

Why? It's alright to dislike or make fun of Kiss here. I like Kiss, but that doesn't mean I have to take them serious. And I think it would be perfectly in line with Gene Simmons convictions that being discussed negatively is better than not being discussed at all. As for hairy Paul, he's always smarting when he's not taken as a "serious musician", but then perhaps he shouldn't have played in Kiss in the first place? It's a bit like Steven Segal complaining that he doesn't get serious roles to play.

Perhaps, if you're from Queens you shouldn't make fun about how other people pronounce things, huh?

So Dave liked horn rock, you live and learn.

Actually, as regards bass playing tracks for me, I should have mentioned those two here:

I don't have a favorite. Here's one of my favorites, from local boys Crow. This did make the Top 40 in 1969. Always liked the bass lines. Bassist was Larry Wiegand.

Dave is probably the only person    in this forum/on earth stadium-rock-averse enought not to know where most of us know this song from:

Red strings on a blue bass is brave.

Anybody who doesn't rate John Taylor highly as a bass player must be deaf. Even George (Carlston) likes him.

There's too many to name, but this is a favorite of mine:

now what's THAT???

A Gibson Custom Shop Acoustic Bass in Super 400 shape, fretless, medium scale and with a passive piezo. Built in 1999 by then Gibson master luthier Phil Jones. Spruce top, EXTREMELY resonant, no sustain block, feedbacks immediately at higher volumes (not good for unplugged sessions with drummers), but sounds like a dream in the studio. A one off model possibly for a NAMM show. A magnetic pup model in L5 shape was also built around that time, but I've never seen pics of it (Phil has confirmed to me though that he built it, but has no clue of the whereabouts).

Nice natural satin Money you have there, I defretted mine because it had a great fretless "sleeping" in it:

I like that swimming pool color! Very hip.

Too much cherry can make you nauseous.  :puke:

Part of old Epi's charm was that they were a bit more adventurous with the colors.

Might be home-made (with some loving attention to detail), but contains enough modern day Epi ingredients (bridge from the Gripp3r reissue, pups from the TB Silverburst Ltd Run, nineties Epi Batwing headstock) to be a coming reissue perhaps. Before the purists swoop down on it: It's nice to see Epi bow to its own rather than Gibson's tradition for once. I'd pick one up.

"Breslau" for Uwe

Welcome back!

As for Matt's LP: Nice and I had no idea that the Epis have 22 frets. That is indeed an advantage, nothing like a high E on a bass to be obnoxious with!  8)

Why shouldn't the Royals listen to rock? Prince Charles is an avid fan of these guys and has seen dozens of their concerts

He and Camilla even wrote Quo a personal letter thanking for this song:

The lead vocalist of the Stones is a "Sir", Her Majesty recognizes Brian May ("You were the one to play on the roof!") and even Robert Halford has been invited to the Buckingham Palace.

A conversation we wish we'd been privy to, featuring Rob Halford, banshee vocalist of heavy metal gods Judas Priest, and Elizabeth II:

"She asked, `Why is heavy metal so loud?'

"I said, `You have to have it loud to bang your head, Your Majesty.'

"She sniffed at that,'' Halford continues, though the queen is hardly the first to sniff at Priest or heavy metal.

All this took place on March 1 at Buckingham Palace at a royal reception recognizing British music and its contribution to the nation's culture and economy. Among the guests were Charlotte Church, Cilla Black, Shirley Bassey, Roger Daltrey, Phil Collins, former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, and a murderers' row of ax men that included Brian May, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page (who the queen asked, "Are you a guitarist, too?'').

And Halford, reunited with Judas Priest after a 12-year break.

"That was surreal, going to Buckingham Palace,'' Halford said. "It was the first time the royal family wanted to give a nod to the music industry in general. My mother was more excited about it than anyone else, but it was magical for me, too, because I'm a royalist. I love the royal family, for all its imperfections, but to actually meet the queen! That was a thrill and a memory I'll always cherish.''

Ever since you were left to your own devices, you renegade yanks have lost any grasp of what Royalty means.
