Gibson Basses / Re: So Barkless

Of course, it's all about getting sensible action on these things. Filing the saddles deeper is another option.

Or getting a Warwick bridge.

IIRC, the less than low action is the one and only gripe John has about this bass.

Mine actually came into being because of it: I overturned the trussrod in an effort to get the action sensibly low and with that repair coming up I decided to have it refinned and have an extra pup added (plus buying a new EB-0, a slothead this time whose two point is not giving the same issues).

Isn't that what Rod Stewart had too? Glad you guys are over it.

"So... now I can breathe again, which is always nice."

Ouch.  :-\

...maybe you need SuperHarmony.

I especially liked the last one.

This is a real advertisement? I think it's cute and not as kitsch or long-faced cheesy as a lot of these mating agency commercials

For once I was almost in agreement with Henry J., until I read this here:

""That's not part of the Lacy Act," said Juszkiewicz. "The law doesn't say, 'Don't deal with bad guys.' What the law says is 'you have to do everything legally.'"

I hear that all to often in my legal practice and it's a flawed concept that in this day and age of corporate governance, compliance and regulation really doesn't have a place anymore in how an international company like Gibson should run its business. Buying wood in the nudge-nudge, wink-wink realisation that though the transactions are legal on paper, you might be turning a blind eye to the questionable source is a no-no.

"Both companies and Gibson said they have stopped buying wood from Madagascar."

That is what Henry should have seen to all along. Gibson is innovative enough to find alternative wood from pristinely-legal sources.

Who's behind windycityguitars?

Must be you and EB2 if you ask me. You're the only two people I know who advocate this pos fine piece of American tooling.

Current bid of 202.50 is already too high.

That's harsh, Dave, those were (again) good basses, not the Epi trash from the early seventies.

Dayamn ! Do you keep that beauty in the office or at home ?

Pic is my (former) home (hey, but I still own half of it!  :) ), but like all Gibbies it is in the office now, I keep the non-Gibbies in the (new) home.

It is, you know how bad these things are ... I think that was even done by the pre-owner, so John is innocent for once.

Rickenbacker Basses / Re: Horseshoes are in.
« on: February 19, 2011, 03:54:49 AM »
Better than a non horseshoe I mean. I don't hear Chris Squire sounding fundamentally different to other Ric, just more extreme. And I can-t imagine that picking up the signal of the strings from above leads to a vastly different result to picking them up from below though I'ne heard that the Ric' cavernous bridge pup routing contributes to the sound and that its effect should be less with the horseshoe.

I don't care about the looks (nice, but no must-have), but I'd buy one if it would make one of my Rics sound very much better or at least different.

This is horrible, losing a loved like that. But you'll be around for him and so will hopefully others. And he'll have the time for a proper good bye to his wife which can help the healing process later on.

Be the best friend on earth.

That's a nice bass except for the bridge. It looks cheap on everything but Fenders.

Ooops, now I get it! I thought you were referring to Validation, Verification, Testing. I'm so bad at acronyms, sorry.

Yes, vol, vol, tone. One of the control routings used to be the jack which is now at the side.
