Weight is the price of admission when it comes to these Lucite basses.  Every time I see one I can't help but think of that pic of Gary Gary Beers in the liner note's of INXS' X album where he's looking through a clear P at the camera.  That was the first time young me ever saw a clear bass. ... and apparently google image does not have a decent version  of that pic.

I still have my 1985 Futura, possibly the oddest & ugliest guitar Gibson ever produced. But interesting in it's own way.

I've always liked them .  Not nearly as stupid looking as, say , a Guild 701.  ... or anything with a reverse V headstock (like Rob posted).

LOL, bud; been there (usually after a few brews).

For some reason, I am much better at avoiding this trap when I am looking at other people's gear problems.  I suppose because I am not , in the back of my head, worried that I'ma gonna have to shell out a lot of coin to fix the issue.

More interesting is the L5-S. Gold pickups...

And those are indeed some sweet pickups (I suspect the main reason they ended up redesigning the pup for the LPSig, vs using a white/cream version of these guys is that they are so bass-rich, you really need the passive bass control as on the LP Recording/Personal/Professional/Jumbo guitars or it can be too overbearing .... so they totally work perfectly well for bass as Rob can attest).

(more pics/info here: http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=7995.0)

Maude is by no means a bassy axe (acoustically - nothing like a standard dreadnaught such as the LP Jumbo) and I find I still have to turn the bass tknob on my amp down near all the way to get a reasonable tone, and I use it in a solo singer/songwriter way mostly so there aren't even any drums or bass to compete with. ... yeah, yeah, the neck position doesn't help, but that's where Gibson put it on the LP Jumbo (and that's how I roll - I'd rather have to cut bass than add some with EQ).

I understand there is only one mud, but that's my side of the spectrum, I mean.  I avoid anything that even approaches the possibility of clank, and like only very little bite or aggressive forwardness.  LoZ pups, the most similar pup to the LPSig (identical, to the 6 banger version anyway, which I assure you is very much like the bass version, if we're talking my dream 'prototype spec'),  have this in common with mud (sure, underwound tap in bridge position gets somewhat clanky, but you know I don't give a damn about bridge position... on a bass anyway. ... I actually like the ability to have that sound mind you, despite never ever thinking I'd use it )  without being muddy at all and I prefer the 60s EB0/3s to the 70s ones with maple necks (they are more assertive.... not that I would call them such, but by comparison). Mud has a few key characteristics, with bassy-as-f&%! being just the most dickslap-in-the-faceiest of them.

Bite is for guitars; quit tryin to be Blackmore on bass  :-*  or who am I to talk, half the time I play bass like a Keif riff... and half of that probably comes out more like Duffy,   :toast:

The 301/ 302 shape is the coolest of the bunch

Yeah -The 20x's seem to MM copy and the 70x's  just way too out there.  Always wanted one but couldn't justify it.  Shoulda grabbed one when I had more disposable income and they were cheap/undesirable.

Ah.  It is interesting.  Dig the idea but I'd like it more with a better fade vs what appears to be a rather "abrupt" (as someone else described this sort of thing in another thread) burst.  Could be the photography/lighting though.

I dunno.  The pointy headstock on a, lets face it, Fender shaped body just doesn't work for me.  Not ugly, just awkward.... then again I like the way victories look (same body shape right? plus/minus contours?).  Could be the hardware/PG in addition to the headstock that tie it together for me.

... maybe I'd like my Victory's tone even more  if it were all maho with set neck like these... but it'd probaly loose it's value as a  P sounding (if a bit ballsier/aggressive) bass - which is why I keep it (don't have a P, and when folks come in to the studio they like familiar things).

I

do

NOT

collect

for

fins cutaways!!!

It's a different model designation, and from your previous statements regarding what you do collect for,  this should easily qualify due to structural difference.

/lawyer'd

... so quit being coy about it.  You know you have too. ... or with all these new models lately are you running out of space?
