When I had my '77 refinned recently I got the bass back without any of the hardware on it - it felt like a toy, so light I thought it'd float away!

LOL - the 3 point added 4 lbs?

I don't wanna hear anyone say it ain't a solid bridge.  :rimshot:

Flash thought: There should be a Federal Law against split coils on anything but a Fender P.

Mind yer own jurisdiction, Hans!  Here in 'Murica, we enjoy our freedom to rock any way we like (firmly entrenched in the constitution ... somewhere between the freedom of religion and right to bear arms).

L&M has em you say. ... just another reason to stay away, don't need the gas.

So you're Canadian Blackbird?  Where abouts?

You sure, I haven't looked in a while (gave up) but all the ones I saw were Epiphone reissues (even a few marked as vintage).

Let me know after the holidays.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Let's see your rig!

Here's my LoZ home practise rig.  Don't play out with this one, strictly practise/recording rig.

Bogen Challenger 33 PA amp
- 2 mic inputs (original amphenol connectors replaced with 1/4" TS) + 1 Phono input (RCA jack on rear).
- 33ish watts from a pair of 6L6s, tube rectified

Into a DIY 1x12 transmission line cabinet currently loaded with an old "fullrange" driver ( Marsland; think vintage Jensen with a whizzer cone).

The horn half maybe (though that lower cutaway is much deeper - not as deep as a Victory though - love that 24th fret access) .... the ass end just screams Mosrite (aka understated Rev TBird offset) to me.

Hey Grog, are those minibuckers from original (60s/70) EB3/EB2Ds?

If so would you be willing to let one go - or at least the mounting ring?  The reissues (EPiphone at least... haven't hecked the SG Bass ones now that I think about it) are metric and just don't fit.

And somehow it didn't occur to you to set up a rig and jam at high volume at the dogs/owner whenever they were in the yard to drive the point accross?   ... Fair enough, I considered the same thing (I am also into archery) with the family of racoons that live in the neighbor's rear addition/mud room (on their 4th generation now; it's gross).

Look good to me (agree it's perspective - look at the pic of the bottoms; same size).  Nice low start - bid in (but this'll likely go higher than I can afford, and I think I still have one spare).

Guitars Etc. / Re: Odd Gibsons from the early 80's

I like the rounded edges, but the diminutive/nonexistent  headstocks of instruments with the tuning machines at the butt end never looked right to me.

Also in reference to this , about the (gold geetar version) Gibson LoZ pups:

I suspect the main reason they ended up redesigning the pup for the LPSig, vs using a white/cream version of these guys is that they are so bass-rich, you really need the passive bass control as on the LP Recording/Personal/Professional/Jumbo guitars or it can be too overbearing .... so they totally work perfectly well for bass as Rob can attest...

I find I still have to turn the bass tknob on my amp down near all the way to get a reasonable tone, and I use it in a solo singer/songwriter way mostly so there aren't even any drums or bass to compete with. ... yeah, yeah, the neck position doesn't help, but that's where Gibson put it on the LP Jumbo (and that's how I roll - I'd rather have to cut bass than add some with EQ).

I plugged her in yesterday for the first time since moving out of my old studio (all the gear minus this guitar and my Triumph were in storage, just grabbed the amp from the lockler the other day).  Didn't have to turn the bass down at all.  I think I had the amp more in a corner in the studio (LoZ input amp, don't use it often) but when I brought it home I had it away from walls.and nowhere near a corner. Also, in the studio I may have been using a (guitar/fullrange) 15 vs the old school hifi 12 (fullrange w whizzer cone) I brought home to plug in to.  Since I was just jamming alone I left the bass flat and it was rather satisfying (especially at lower volume,  with the amp just noticeably louder than the guitar acoustically, chopping at some blues riffs).  I suspect you'd still need to roll off some bass in a band setting or at higher volumes where the upper mid/trable reinforcement of the acoustic tone is less of a tone factor, but I may have slightly overstated the issue earlier. Still, I don't think this is a pup that is well paired with a typical 4x12 stack, barring niche purposes.

S'up, bud!

That white LoZ pup sure looks good.  Where/how did you get it?

Yesterday I noticed the difference between the gold version and the standard (black or white) versions - the gold plating acts as a shield (I was tracking down some buzz on my project guitar, broke a ground connection when messing around with something else).  There is the possibility that this is redundant (e.g. a metal can or lining on the inside of the plastic cover), but I doubt that.

Well that's a fun game.

First bass was a borrowed Squire P (or was it the borrowed Fernandez P copy... anyway, those were the first 2; I liked the Fernandes better, but that's probably mostly down to string choice - it had flats in the biggest guage my friend could find)
First Guitar was a borrowed low end Charvel/Jackson strat but pointier thing with just one pup (bridge) and the shittiest trem ever.
First amp was a borrowed Peavey Bandit 8" practise combo.

The guitar and amp were owned by my then-girlfriend, now wife's older sister who was away at University, and who I've never seen play anything other than her nylon string acoustic.  Still have the amp.  Guitar was returned to her dad and gifted to some young cousin or something to learn on (but not before I fixed that shitty trem).

First bass I owned was my 65 Gibson EB3 (bought in the 00s for $300, stripped to the bare wood after a neck reset with the hardware that wasn't missing in a plastic bag)
First guitar I owned was a 80 Gibson Sonex Custom I only slightly overpaid for in a local pawn shop because I thought it was a Les Paul.  I later bought second one for $200 less and sold it for $100 more (allegedly, according to the shop owner where I consigned it, to the dude from 13 Engines, in case anyone ever heard of them) so it worked out.  The first one had a much nicer neck.
The first amp I owned was my Bogen Challenger plugged into a DIY cab with a salvaged speaker.
