Of course they have a perfect right to do as they please. As do all of us, if they want to alienate their fan base I suppose that is up to them. I won't buy what there are selling. The Who Sell Out indeed.

AFAIK they still have a big fan base. It's fine if you and some others aren't a part of it any longer, but I'll bet they will continue to be popular even if they're a shadow of the original band.

Can't spell Entwistle. Bad sign.

It's a parts bass that doesn't have a Precision neck or a real Gibson body. He won't get near his asking price although I wouldn't be surprised if he has that much in it.

Fender Basses / Re: '65 P-bass on craigslist

I am kind of spooked by the description.  Getting a valuation from a pawnbroker is never a sign of market awareness.  Getting a figure of $12k and then deciding a great thing to do is to refinish - that is the sign of a freaking idiot.  The mention of dials confirms it.  Personally I would expect to deal with a bozo, and it is sadly a 50/50 chance that they would stick hard to the price, or take a $1000 and a line of coke.

Amen.

You don't sell a real '65 P on Craigslist unless you're being unrealistic about the price, unaware or crazy. Or don't really own it.

Not a pleasant muddy like the Gibson EB-series mudbucker, more of a distorted sound. Its heyday was in the 80s. It would probably overdrive most solid state preamps at a low setting.

Yep, no matter if somebody on a forum says otherwise, the X2N and X2N-B are not identical. But you don't want either of them if you want clear tone. That's not what they do.

They're more than happy being a retro act. That's where the money is.

I would leave the peak painted. YMMV.

I don't think it will stay low, the big guns will come out and most likely soar past my highest bid, but a fellow can dream right ?

I also expect this to jump up at the last minute. But you never know. Just don't let yourself get sucked into a bidding war.

I was afraid they'd be a watered down version of the Who but they were quite good I thought. Mix did suck but that's live TV for you. Loved the audience singalong.

I thought they did okay, considering all the drawbacks of doing something like a 12 minute show under those conditions. They aren't who they were in 1965, but I don't expect them to be.

first thing I noticed was those t-bird pups in his p-bass, too bad you couldnt hear the damm thing!  What a CRAPPY mix..  You know, because its all about pete and roger.

Sorry, but moon and Entwistle made the band, but those Mod target cymbals were awsome!

It's always all about the stars, and Pete and Roger were always the primary stars. Even more so now that John and Keith are gone. I wouldn't expect it to be any other way.

That's not minimizing John and Keith's roles, it's just facing reality.

Thanks, Robert, I sure don't remember seeing that label before!

I still wouldn't offer much because that headstock might well need more repair and there's no s/n.

The tuners, (one being replaced), the bridge & the Gibson logo mini humbucker are all from about the right era for it being an early seventies...

Sorry, I should have thought about it more. I think you're right, the three Gibson logo tuners are proper for that era.

Too bad Maytag lost that reputation in a big way. Between the poor reliability of the Neptune series and Amana, they lost their market. Now they're just a name owned by Whirlpool.
