The Dark Stars were hotter than the original Hagstroms. That Crown of Creation’ sound tone will require you to get a Versatone amp. No way around it.

Beautiful work. Also really like the key choices and setup.

The gentleman dadagoboi is correct and that is a good thing on all counts, as Fender etc. parts are for the most part interchangeable and you can put something together that can be better than the sum of its parts(!??). In other words you might be able to make an instrument yourself with not too much technical knowledge but with your serious intent and voila! You have an instrument in your hands and have pride in putting it together yourself that has that old magic and it might just be the one you go to quite often.

This is a chance for the Epiphone Elitist series in Japan to stir it up and take the stand.

Purely from an aesthetic angle, eventually I'll get around to changing the black pickup casings to cream/ivory colored ones. Otherwise, with those famous last words "it's a keeper".

I know what you mean. Somehow I always felt they were almost toy like and we're lesser versions of their two predecessors. They are fully loaded contenders and this version speaks for itself and made me think twice and it's alright.

The P/J Mustang had absolutely no appeal to me at all. So when at the local GC picking up a TC tuner, I saw  one hanging on the wall (sonic blue w/mint green pickguard) amongst some of the new G&L, Rickenbacker and Music Man offerings, none of which had any level of enticement at this point of the game. So for some reason I picked the Mustang off the wall and plugged it into a GK210 combo. It was slightly heavy for its size (most Mustangs and Music Masters usually were and are, so no big surprise there) but not obnoxiously so. So twiddling between the P and J combinations was actually quite interesting as there were definitely the usual characteristics of the 2 but somehow this being a short scale something was a little more pronounced. Not sure if it was the pickups themselves but the tones were thick & big. This is a short scale solid body that surprisingly grew on me. I decided to get going. The thing stayed on my mind and well you know, had to snag it and it was still there a week later. I'm working on a project where my chosen instruments are a '74 Gibson Les Paul Signature, Hofner 500/1 and a Fantastic Carlo Robelli (Rickenbacker 4001 shape). However waiting impatiently in the corner is that little Mustang bastard.

I do like the DeCola pickups with the split coils and the Babicz bridge combination. I'm thinking Gibson can do some more with these 2.

Yes heftier price. All around the pickups, electronics, Babicz bridge and thicker Rosewood fingerboard added up but not to the 60%. I like the '15 enough to have let go of 2 of my other Gibson TBIV's and a Very nice Precision. The '15 covered a lot of tonal areas enough to prompt this lessening of my collizione. Yes Chinese made anything is on a steep surge and Epiphone will have to eventually end up being made in Africa. I manufacture in Japan for the most part and some of the resources are sourced from China, however in the last few years because of the cost increases in China the equivalent cost wise are reverted back to Japan and Thailand (for fabrics). China is not in the mix any more from where we are concerned and a lot of others as we are seeing.

I'm assuming the 2017 EB Bass has the De Cola pickups. I notice that they don't have the coil tapping variations the 2015 TBIV's had. I like simplicity but the coil tapping switches on the '15 TBIV was a nice option that gave quite a wide range of possibilities. You could actually go to a gig or in the studio and not have to bring along a Jazz or a precision and still have a TBIV.

I think we do need a prostrate harnessing forum. Even the outpost caffe might not have toilets close enough.
