That's from an external search indexing the whole site. Go to the "basses" page. It ain't there.

They'll REALLY have to step up their game if Gibson wants to charge US-made prices after making such a stellar bass in Indonesia. My Epi smokes the recent US TBirds.

Someone over at the Facebook Thunderbird Bass Players Group suggested that he saw the Vintage Pro Thunderbird announced as coming soon at the Gibson site.

It's also completely missing from the Epiphone site, too.

Check all the usual online dealers; the stock is dwindling and sunburst models are all but gone already. I got one from Sam Ash new for $550.

On a possibly related note, Epi Vintage Pro T-Birds are starting to disappear and be clearanced.

LOL! Totally off topic, but years ago, Scott Ian of Anthrax had a guitar made that was fretless from like the 12th fret up because he was strictly rhythm.  ;D

If you could have seen the ugly redneck chick he was trying to nail when I saw them in 2004-5 when he had Meatloaf's hot daughter at home, you would understand.

I always get a chuckle about the Sting connection. He used his for literally one tour (Syncronicity). Not sure if he recorded anything with it.

...but just like the Ibanez Musician, old film of him playing one has sold many basses.

Stuart has built his own buzz for years and with some legit age on his early work, it's a vintage/nostalgia thing. Old Spectors are nice. new ones don't sound like them and they don't offer the same options except in the custom versions, so the old ones rise accordingly. Also keep in mind that the 80's was when imports first made big inroads in the US and most of them were NOT well-received. Plus the Spector was pretty much THE active sound for many years starting in the 80's, the first widely accepted studio alternative to the Precision...and Sting played one.

I was looking! They're like 2 grand. Came really close to buying one in the 80s. The guitarist in my band doubled on Stick, so I got to spend some time with it. Maybe someday...

I have a friend who might sell his spare. Want me to ask him?

I don't like it THAT much. I'd rather put the money towards speaker cabinets. I have an SX Jazz shortie/"student bass" that I paid $75 that scratches that itch just fine. I just love that big Gibby Sidewinder pickup. They're asking a grand, won't go below 900, and sales tax here is 9.25%, so it's basically a grand. I can find them on eBay and Reverb for around 700 now that I know it's a 70's for sure.

Got back out to see it again yesterday. There IS a pickguard. Funny how I can remember the writing on the tuners, but a pickguard escapes my notice. It's also not so much a bargain now that I've researched EB-0's of that age. Still plays and sounds great.

It does the "G" on the tuners, but they also say "Made in Germany" on them, hence OEM for Gibson.

Gibson Basses / EB-0 Questions
« on: September 26, 2019, 01:13:24 PM »
A local pawnshop has what they're calling a '58 EB-0. I normally hate shorties, but it plays and sounds amazing. I don't, however, think that it's actually a '58.  It's walnut finished, no PG, slotted headstock with what looks to me like OEM Schallers, Sidewinder pu and covered, rubber muted 2-point bridge. It would be a good deal even for a more recent model, BUT it would be a purely studio creature for me. My gut says 70's, and what info I have found seems to back that up. I'd appreciate any input.
