The Bass Zone / string spacing issues ripper/guild pups/hipshot? who knows?
« on: September 05, 2016, 07:47:49 AM »
ok dudes, my favorite bass is my 76 Ripper with guild pups. though the bridge pup doesn't perfectly line up (where the neck does) part of this is due to me installing them myself with less than ideal results. part may due to my 3 point not being the original (says "made in Japan" on bottom) and could be a hair narrower than the OG Schaller. since im looking to buy a second ripper (getting rid of most other basses) i want to set up 2 the same. not sure what to do. should i find different pups (maybe mudbuckers, darkstars or t-40 pups) any ways can any one who has proper measuring tools give me spacing measurements of 1. hipshot 3point replacement bridge. 2. guild humbuckers . since i have 1 T-40 pup i was also toying with the idea of running guilds in the neck and t-40's in the bridge.(which will require finding a shorter"front" pup ring for the guild and another t-40 pup)  or any suggestions? i love the aggressive sound of the guilds but open to other ideas.
p.s. i love chrome. sorry to ramble on. as soon as i sell a few things i'm hoping to buy Terry's Ripper (if still available)
basically i want 2 aggressive ass Rippers with cool chrome pups.

Hey guys, it's been a while. How's it hanging? I'm on the hunt for another ebony board ripper. Preferably with no parts since I have a set of tuners and 1 pup. They have gotten more scarce and expensive. I've realized they are my favorite bass and would like a second one

All Gibson and Epiphone cases are short scale, a long scale Flying V won't fit. OTOH, like Dadagoboi says, all Dean Flying Vs (or whatever they call their similar shaped models) are long scale or even extra-long scale, their cases are aircraft carriers even dwarfing long scale Explorer cases. No worries about the bass size then, you might just need a wider car (no joke, my Dean Flying V cases are too wide for even my Volvo V-70's backseat compartment and that is not a narrow car by any means).  Or always transport them lengthwise in driving direction in which case you need a station car. Oh, when I still had the Volvo XC-90, that fit in width, but only barely.
i love the Univox. such a fun little bass. my bridge pup is dead and after i get that either fixed or replaced i wanna find the humbucker version with a maple fingerboard.

thanks. but the Vantage is a short scale. most V basses are. Dean being the exception. i think the old aluminum neck Kramer V's were 32"

I will if I ever find a case. I might try those goofy coffin cases, they seem to fit weird pointy shapes

the Vantage is covered in stickers. strategically cut and fit around each other. then a whole can of polyurethane. i paid $40 for the bass, the body was broken in half. i epoxied it back together and added the DiMarzio pup sounds and plays great. i just need a hard case or any case for it. i may try to make one.
