Rickenbacker Basses / Re: Video about McCartney Sgt Pepper sounds
« on: December 17, 2021, 12:14:34 AM »
Sadly, the studio this was recorded at, Boulevard Studio, had a bad fire last month. Live room was undamaged, but the control room was just about destroyed by heat and smoke. Hoping they can build back up and reopen, already contributed to their gofundme.

That must have been a blast. Got any sound samples of the work you did there?

Not yet unfortunately, waiting for the mastering to be completed, but I'll post something when the tracks are released! It was a great experience, we tracked it live, with the amps in isolated rooms and the guitar and bass in the room with the drummer.

Old thread, I know, but I actually recorded there at Boulevard a few months back. Great room and great place to work. Even used that exact black Rick on a track instead of my Thunderbird and Precision. Similarly to the video, we ran a DI and then also mic'd up my Sunn 2000s or Hiwatt DR103 and 2x15 cab. Different mic and not spaced quite that far out, and then through those same compressors. Came out really great! Having not played a Rick in a few years, it definitely prompted me to pick one up again (or at least a Greco clone)!

The Outpost Cafe / Re: Dylan... I don't believe a word of it
« on: August 17, 2021, 08:05:08 PM »
Saw this the other day. I'll reserve judgement til more evidence comes to light, but I do try to be fair in that I believe victims with valid claims and proof.

That being said, in this instance I am skeptical given a few points. Ignoring the timing of the lawsuit, the period it's alleged to have taken place was over 6 weeks in April and May of '65 in his apartment at the Chelsea Hotel. Well, from the 30th of April until the 10th of May, Bob Dylan was on tour in England, plus travel days either side of that I'm sure. And secondly, from what I recall reading in another article, it's documented that he had an apartment in the Chelsea Hotel from '61-'64, and the only time he stayed at the hotel in '65 was during the fall. And all of that, I would think would be a pretty easy matter of record to show.

So until further evidence is given, it seems like a pretty tenuous allegation/lawsuit.

Hadn't seen this video of Acca Dacca before, Mark Evans with his Grabber.

I interviewd Suzi Quatro some weeks ago. She loves the Ripper and hates the Grabber.

I LOVE SUZI.

Just picked up a Suzi Quatro shirt and will die on the hill of spreading the good word of her.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: 1978 Marshall Super Lead MK II

Dayum, congrats!  My Sunn 1200s is pretty much the same power section (4x 6550/KT88 ultralinear) but you got a middish preamp and I've got dark.

I can't turn mine up passed 2-3 at jam - you are a brave man.

The 1200s is going to be more similar in power to the Major than the Super Lead. Super Leads and Basses came with 4xEL34s, or during some period, 6550s in America, but the actual power section never changed, just biased for different tubes. The Sunns also had significantly larger transformers. My 2000s and 1000s are all much louder than the 100w Marshall I had, and also louder than my Hiwatt DR103. But the mids on the Marshalls certainly help them push through!

I think I keep the Sunn rig on about 3-4 during practice...but I'm kinda missing my Marshall now.

The Bass Zone / Re: Fly Guitars site down ?

That wouldn't be the same issue that caused the whole site to go down, but I'll let Jules know.

No didn't think it was, but was wondering if other people were still seeing it after the site was brought back up. Cleared all my caching, renewed dns, etc, and no change, but thought the site going down and brought back up might have resolved it. Thanks for passing it on!

I've had an issue for months where the Thunderbird page, and ONLY that page on his site, gives me a fatal error when I try to load it. Does that happen for anyone else?

Gibson Basses / Re: NR Thunderbird through a Acoustic 360

I'd love to try one head to head with the 2000s rig. Still haven't found a full match for that rig (although the Hiwatt is pretty much on par), but these Acoustics do sound huge, gotta give one a go some day!

Yep, the Gotoh's are the best choice running. I can't remember if I used the Resolites or the normal ones, I'm think I went with the standards, but the resolites will certainly help with neck weight. Either way, when I upgraded my BaCH, I went with Gotohs.

Looks perfect to me. Thanks to the chrome ring/casing.
Simple, classic.

Bass sounds the part too:

Wow, color me impressed with her playing. Very cool. Bass sounds pretty decent as well.

Gibson Basses / Re: New for 2021

I'm afraid not.
They're all gone.

Now and then one pops up on Marktplaats (marketplace or similar).
But they always sell quickly. If you ever see one, don't wait too long... ;)

Oh, I know, I keep my eyes peeled over here for if and when they pop up. After much waylaying I should be finally wrapping up my refinishing on mine early next month. Very excited to get it back together. I just need about 2-3 more of them, and it doesn't seem Gibson will be doing that anytime soon.

They had the chance to surpass the BaCHbird.
But they missed that chance

Ugh, I don't suppose you have any IIs left hiding under a bed or something you'd send on over stateside?
