The Outpost Cafe / Re: So, what have you been listening to lately?
« on: January 24, 2024, 05:49:21 PM »
This doesn't clear up the lyrics which seem incomprehensible.  But looking at the interpretations, it helps to know it is Dylan trying to reconcile his older with his younger self.  The younger self was idealistic and certain.  The older self isn't so sure and now sees gray rather than just black and white.

I think that's quite accurate. It's the other 95% of the song I haven't a clue about. But that's normal for me and Dylan.

I love that tune and the chorus, but I can't understand the meaning of any six words in a row in that tune.  I looked up the lyrics and it might as well have been sung in Patagoonian - other than the chorus.

But that's my reaction to much of Dylan's writing. Often good tunes, some good hooks ("everybody must get stoned") and aside from that, mostly incomprehensible lyrics. That was often the case with some 60s and 70s music -  the lyrics made no sense to me.

New to me and more recently harder than hell to get is a Genzler Magellan 350 Series 2 Combo.  It's sitting on top of my Epifani UL2 212 cab which I'm selling to replace with a Genzler BA2-112-3 Cab.

Welcome, @soulman. Nice to see that you made it here.

Thanks for the feedback,  I reviewed this particular video and the audio seems fine. Any one else experience garbled audio?

I may be too critical, it just sounded to me like the mic was too far away from you.  Perhaps it's OK to others. As an old radio guy, I'm pretty focused on getting mics within inches of the speaker. Doing that might require a two-channel mixer with separate mic and bass inputs.

Here's a little video of the final result.https://youtu.be/P4EDsVH-V2M?si=YGqvHIUJySECTZaI

Your videos are impressive!  If I could ask for anything, it would be to have a mic closer to you when you speak - it's pretty echo-laden and a bit hard to understand what you're saying.

I have always loved the Mitch Ryder version - and this one by Creedence is pretty irresistable. This is just doing it right.

All in all, you need a Fender to get the best clanky sound.  Not that that's always a bad thing of course.  I'm not a big fan of the clanky sound, preferring old school deep bass.  But sometimes something else is needed.  The bassist for the Belgian band Brutus I've posted about gets a clanky sound a lot with his Fenders.  However, he also seems to be fond of his Ripper, Grabber and RD Artist basses.

When I listen to some of Entwhistle's soloed tracks, especially Baba O'Riley, I'm surprised at how clanky the sound is. But it worked well in the mix.

Interesting that Paul is playing with his thumb in much of the She Loves You video, but using a pick at the end of the cut.

Pretty nice quality video for its age!

I’ve had good luck with Postimage , there’s an option to resize images for forums.
And the basic plan is free …

https://postimages.org/

It’s straightforward to set up and navigate.

Here's what I don't like about PostImage.com...you lose all control of any image you upload.

"With regard to any file or content you upload to the public portions of our site, you grant PostImage a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable worldwide license (with sublicense and assignment rights) to use, to display online and in any present or future media, to create derivative works of, to allow downloads of, and/or distribute any such file or content, including embedded (hotlinked) into third-party websites otherwise not affiliated with PostImage. To the extent that you delete any such file or content from the public portions of our site, the license you grant to PostImage pursuant to the preceding sentence will automatically terminate, but will not be revoked with respect to any file or content PostImage has already copied and sublicensed or designated for sublicense."

If it's too large, just launch Paint (in Windows), drag and drop your image and click on Resize.

I tried that using the "Resize and skew" function in Paint, but although the number of pixels are reduced the file size stayed the same.  The free program from Irfanview.com (been using it for 15+ years) seems to work better.

How do I manage file sizes with phots? Don't see options.

I have to modify mine outside this forum and add them under "Additional Options" at the bottom of the post.  I only succeed in getting about 40% of my photos small enough to post here.  It's continues to be a frustration.

Some people get highly unreasonable with age, I saw it with my dad and my elder brother. They began shutting things out that did not fit their world view, no sense of balance in judgement which is generally identified with life experience. My brother went from being a lefty conspiracy theorist to being a righty/populist conspiracy theorist/nihilist. And my dad created his own view of family history irreconcilable with anybody else‘s in the family or reality for that matter.

I've seen that too, although it certainly varies between people. I wonder if part of it is learning critical thinking earlier in life, and whether a person feels the need to narrow their world view to avoid upsetting their assumptions about society.  The world is changing faster all the time, and today's world and social behaviors don't look like the world I was born into in 1950.
