Uwe, you are a wealth of information, as always. Great story - That Rick Derringer is always in the middle of things - he used to own one of the very early Explorers geetars with the "split V" headstock as well.

Years ago - probably 1979-80 - that bass hung in the front window of one of the vintage shops on 48th St in NYC. It might have been Stuyvesant Music. It was the real tiny place a few doors west of Manny's. Every time we went in to look at stuff we couldn't afford, that bass was there. It was either not for sale or ridiculously priced for the time ($3k maybe?)

My folks didn't buy an AC until 1958 - a giant Friedrich room air conditioner big eThe Friedrich plant in San Antonio shut down last November and moved to Monterey to try to keep competitive (they're still headquartered in SA), and that was the last US plant making window units. End of an era.

That sux - I've always liked their ACs (even the imported stuff is pretty decent). I have four Friedrich through-the-wall units in my home.

how about dick wagner or steve hunter. they seemed to be everywhere back then. even on aerosmith records. :P

The "Train Kept A Rollin" argument still rages even though their playing on it is well documented.

Here in NJ, people bought and/or built homes near Raceway Park drag strip (not THAT kind, Mark) and have been trying unsuccessfully for years to get it closed down because of the noise.

Ok, with that explanation and alternative life style agenda, I'm now all for that upside down TRC too.

I dunno - personally, I would have foregone the TRC and just glued some rug around the opening.

Where did thepickups come from? Also, any difficulty with the neck pocket? I've been toying with this idea myself - I have a rosewood w/pearl blocks SX Jazz neck held for the project...
