The song is actually Reggae, "Funky" doesn't always mean "Slapfest" and there's no slapping here.

You mean the Three Stooges is funk? Lotsa slapping going on. Why youuuu...

Well, thank goodness for Fiat then.  ;D

The new Chrysler: let's see, with Fiat's legendary reliability, 55% ownership by the UAW, questionable financing and an army of pissed-off soon-to-be-ex-dealerships, what could possibly go wrong?  ??? ;D
I'm by no means happy about any of this, especially the way the UAW has benefited from it. I have no problem with workers owning the company, but unions...? I read last week that they have agreed not to strike until 2015. I almost laughed at the headline!
The Fiat aspect doesn't bother me as much. I can't see it being any worse than the cornholing that Chrysler took from Daimler with that "merger of equals".
Actually, it's kind of refreshing to see the dealers getting hosed for a change. Most of the ones getting the boot probably deserve it - at least based on the list from my area. Even as a person who buys used, er, preowned vehicles, being at the dealership is usually a degrading experience at best.

Maybe I've succumbed to the concept of global economy.  I just figure that a good sounding bass is worth having at the right price, regardless of where it was made.

Strangely, I agree - with regard to musical instruments. They are tools after all, and not everyone can afford a full set of "Snap-On" wrenches/screwdrivers. If it meets your requirements in terms of aesthetics, playability and sound, the country of origin shouldn't matter.
Cars, however, are another matter entirely - that's way too much of a religion for me to buy anything but American iron. ;D

The Bass Zone / Re: Bad Co. Bassplayer
« on: May 16, 2009, 06:28:25 AM »
As a huge BadCo fan, I'm happy anytime the original lineup does something, but from what I've read, this tour is something that was almost a necessity in order to maintain the Bad Company brand viability. (strange things can happen to a band's catalog when it's left to wither) They did a one-off show last year in Florida at the Hard Rock Cafe which was recorded for a DVD (to be sold at the upcoming shows and released in August to the retail outlets). Rodgers has said he hopes to include some old BadCo chestnuts in the set, mentioning "Silver, Blue and Gold" in particular. I hope Ralphs playing better than during the 1999 BadCo reunion gigs - he's always been a favorite of mine, but frankly he looked and sounded tired. Personally, I'd rather see them record some new material.

With regard to Howard Leese, he was not in the "guitar hero" role with Heart - that was Roger Fisher. His playing is serviceable, but he won't set the world on fire. He's been playing with Rodgers for years, who likes to use familiar faces on tour - no surprises.

My Whirlpool dishwasher is made in the USA, but the motor/pump is made in China. Guess which component took a dump after less than three years... >:(

And professional athletes...possibly the husbands of tiny blonde women.

Or guys that THINK they're professional athletes because they play in a Wednesday night beer fart softball league.

Now I know almost nothing about the CTS. The average Caddy buyer must be about 97 years old and I'm not there yet.

No Dave, that's the Buick buyer. The Caddy buyer is a self important clown with way too much disposable income. If the Caddy happens to be an Escalade, the buyer also probably has a small johnson. ;D

IMO styling is the biggest mistake GM has made; they've built pretty durable vehicles, but they're nothing special in the styling department.  I was a GM guy for years, but they haven't built a single car (other than the 'Vette) in the past 20 years that was visually attractive.  Ford and Chrysler have done MUCH better in the styling department, while GM has been a vast wasteland of boring and repulsive shapes, especially on the Chevrolet side.

Never mind that they had to hire Ralph Gilles (designer of the PT Cruiser) from Chrysler to create the HHR. And notice how the 'Vette slowly started to look more like a Viper coupe. The new Camaro???...

Not that critics count for much but Ebert said that it covers no new frontiers, but rather the same old ones & big movie formulas with modern wham bam special effects. He gave it 2 & 1/2 stars?

Never listen to movie critics.

There's a difference between donning one because you want to and because you have to.

Has anyone mentioned Gene Simmons yet?

Back around 1990 I went to a benefit show at The Stone Pony - it was supposed to be Paul Stanley along with a NY cult band called The Good Rats and Saraya. It wound up being the whole of Kiss, along with JLTurner, a couple of guys from The Rascals, and TM Stevens' band. Between Gene and the rest, there was alot of "rock helmets" on stage that evening. I dubbed the show Night of 1000 Rugs"

Agreed, Turner has a poor choice in material and will sing anything for a dime. I liked what he did with Fandango and on Slaves and Masters better than anything he's done with Rainbow and than most of the stuff post-Purple.

I like the Rainbow stuff alot. His solo efforts (and the HTP albums) seem to all include a couple of good cuts and a bunch of subpar tunes. Oddly, his most consistent solo albums are Under Cover/Under Cover 2.

Re Lou Gramm - I think Lou was one of the finest rock singers ever. They don't make them like that anymore.

"There's a line here that cuts real deep - well, at least down to the scalp...".  ;D ;D ;D Coverdale's comment about not performing with a wig is a (cheap) swipe at Turner who has to live with the rumour/truth of actually wearing one live during the last ten years or so.

TEN years? You're a kind man, Uwe.
My gripe with Joe's singing is that he suffers from the Coverdale disease to some degree as well. He has a great soulful, R&B-tinged rock voice, yet he continually tries to be either a metal or pop vocalist, depending on his mood. Neither one suits him, IMHO. I used to go see Joe with a band called Ezra back in the 70s at local high school dances and concerts here in NJ. I also have a tape of him doing a benefit where he sings a short set of old soul standards - great stuff.
