Gibson Basses / Newer Bird Pickup
« on: November 18, 2008, 05:25:52 AM »
I recently acquired one (Black Gibson RI variety) and was thinking of using it in an ongoing project bass. How different are these from the pickups in my '76 T-Bird? Is it better suited (all things considered) to the bridge or "middle position? Would it be acceptable as a single pickup in the "sweet spot" ala Music Man?
T'anks!

The Outpost Cafe / Who's Missing From The R&R Hall of Fame?
« on: November 15, 2008, 03:07:53 PM »
Today, (for no explicable reason) I found myself looking over the list of this year's inductees. Knowing full well that the HOF is a plaything for Jann Wiener - umm, Wenner - I decided to pick, IMHO, the three biggest oversights thus far:
Chicago
Kiss
Free/Bad Company
I'd like to hear everyone else's top 3 disses.

The Bass Zone / Entwistle Bass Book
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:19:04 PM »
I was in the sale annex at my local Barnes & Noble the other day and picked up a copy of Bass Culture: The John Entwistle Bass Collection. This is a $40 (USD) hardcover book that is being sold on clearance at $9.98. It's one of the most amazing picture books I've seen, filled with breathtaking shots of The Ox's instruments. Get a copy before they're all gone.

Gibson Basses / The infamous 2-point bridge
« on: August 27, 2008, 05:49:29 AM »
Y'all-
I have a 70s MIJ EB-3 copy that uses a knockoff of the 2-point. Like the original, this one is worn and is tilted upward at the end where the strings anchor, and has done so to the point where I can no longer make proper adjustments. Other than the Hipshot (which is really too expensive for this application), has anybody found a suitable mod, repair or replacement? Or, should I swallow my aesthetic pride and try to slap a "F" style unit on there? The problem is further compounded by the narrow neck width and string spacing, which, IMO is already too close to the edges - so my choices may be limited.
