I had string order reversed by a luthier ( http://www.guncustoms.nl ) on mine . He also did the setup and I have not had a problem since.

I can not give you advice on the bass you saw. Bad setups can have many reasons including human error, but also neck problems. Can't you tell it has a bad setup to the shop owner and ask if you are allowed to do it right?

Rickenbacker Basses / Re: 3rd pickup in the mute compartment

The bridge pickup in my 4005 (which is somewhat near to the position this will fit in) is not usable on itself i.m.h.o.. It does ad a nice touch if you mix it with the neck pickup. Especially with the cap in. (The neck pickup of a 4005 sounds very similar to a 4001/4003 neck pickup.)

I do look at the elderly page somewhat regularly (I even bought my 4004 BBR there last year). But apparently not regular enough to have noticed this. ;-)

I agree with Paul. I paid 2000 euro myself for my 2000 4003s/8 last year (got it via RRF). Usually what we pay in Euro's you pay in dollars. (2000 here=2000 there)

I missed two of them!  ???

No you did not. ;-)

(I bought Chris's one and later sold it. So you just missed one. You did miss 2 changes to buy one though.)

You sold your 3000 without consulting me?  ???

I did too!

Would a regular instrument cable work from the Ric-O-sound jack to that box, or is a special cable still required?

No. You need a stereo cable.

If you do a reprint in a bigger format (Rickenbacker poster size) I will buy it once more Paul.

Congrats! One day I will own a (non-fl) JG again. I love the looks of them.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: New Fender Bassman tube amp!
« on: May 20, 2011, 04:46:24 PM »
I played Bassman's for many years and was allways happy with them. I still have my '63 now, it is one of my practice amps nowadays with a nice warm but clear tube sound. Fender Bassman's seem to have a revival now in Holland. Alan Davey (20 years Hawkwind, now Gunslinger and several projects) still uses 70 watt bassmans and has a ferocious sound with them. etc....

I am highly curious to these new Bassman's. But I am also afraid that they will cost a whole lot more than an old one with an overhaul.

I love blue and black guitars. Just not on the same instrument!

I'm still curious why it works for some and does not for others. I know I tend to pick pretty hard. If I play gently with fingers than I do not have a problem with the hipshot. Also fretboard - body distance (and maybe neck angle) are not allways the same with Rickenbacker's through the years. This could be an issue as well.

If memory serves me right (which it not always does) BasVarken tested an Orange Class-D amp and found it to be not very dynamic. In other words a somewhat compressed sound. Another forumite from a Dutch bassguitarists forum (not sure if he is member here) confirmed that this is normal behavior for a class-D amp. You have to like it. If you do than it is a very efficient way of amplifieing.

Is there a problem you want to fix rockinrayduke? There are many know fixes for the original Rickenbacker bridge. If you tell what your problem is we might be able to help you with the things you allready got at home.

I have an aluminium and it sucks. It rattles and rolls whenever I hit strings.
