So the deal actually got sweeter- the included shipping came next day!  All the switches currently work as they should, sounds like a beast! Can't believe how much I dig this thing. Ya'll aren't kidding with the weight, either. Not too bad as it balances great, though! Thanks for your input everybody!

Joseph from Pallbearer plays one of these. Thought it sounded great, but when I saw them he was having some noise issues- crazy, noisy humming anytime he wasn't hands on with it! He's playing it here, for anyone into their music heavy and slow:

How about an Ampeg V-4B? Or SVT.

I had some pretty negative interactions with Ampeg customer service, which has turned me off to the brand (even though I still have a B-15 kicking around the house.)  Currently using a Verellen Meatsmoke preamp into a crown power amp. I like the dirt on the lead channel, the low end I'm getting, and being able to level the clean and dirty channels outputs. BUT something is missing. Is it something with missing a tube power section?

In my garage rock band I tried head after head (SVT 4-pro, TC Electronic, 700RBii, Streamliner, the Verellen, Mesa M6,) until landing on the Sunn- it just feels right. The Verellen is close for this band, just hasn't given me that feeling. Maybe I'll look for a bigger Sunn and go with pedals for my dirt?

RD's are so cool, looks like they've gone up in price quite a bit too!

I'm floored with all the RD love! I hadn't seen much mention of them, even here. Only one I've seen in person is the guitar version.

I know what you mean about not fitting your body- Ricks are that way with me. Like the look, love the sound, can't comfortably play one. In another life, as a 6 string player, I could never make an SG sound like an actual guitar, either. Which is super odd as I love my EB-0...

Yeah, I'm super excited! I've always thought these looked great in an imposing sort of way. I like look stripped as well- kind of ugly-pretty

WORDS TO LIVE BY, CARLO!!!!!

Thanks for the quick replies! Order has been placed! I love the knowledge base to which I have access here. Now with one band I'll be playing Carlo's bass that I ordered because of this page into the Sunn head I bought on advice here, and hopefully using the RD in my other band.

Any advice on a two channel head that can get really wooly for a heavy band? Round out my LBO advised rigs!

I've always thought these look great, but never actually laid hands on one. The price on this is lower than I'm used to seeing, think that is just because of the stripped finish? I still dig the look. Am I crazy if I bite? Any input is greatly appreciated!

A beautiful bass, no doubt about that. But my heart is constantly directed toward the one pup, no pg, G8R, cherry. Now, that's a beauty! To be precise, that bass is the whole reason why that word's constructed: Beautiful! http://cataldobasses.com/G8R.html

As the proud owner of the cherry G8R, I have to say it plays and sounds better than it looks! I gig with it almost exclusively of my current fifteen. Sounds like an extremely angry cannon...

Danko sounded great on his slot head. That dude had soul. Copacetic, you could check out some of Curtis Novak's pickups if you're looking for options other than the TB+

I'll second that. I've got a 64 eb0 with a Curtis Novak pick up. All the playability and a wider variety of tones. I kept the original in case I ever want to go back, which I never think I will. Until I listen to Black Sun's live stuff with an eb0...

Also interesting to hear about the Rumble Kat. Always liked the look, never gotten to play one!

I can't believe I missed these shows!!! I didn't know they were happening after the initial cancellation until after they passed. Fan of all 3 bands, and haven't seen Clutch in 17 years or so. Typing that makes me feel older than I probably should...

We've got a local "group" of musicians that gets together every 6 weeks or so for 1-3 theme shows. Usually 24-30 musicians show and we all have rehearsed a few songs, so everyone can get their stage time in.  Last weekend was their one and only Cheap Trick show- and my dumb ass was out of town! And I've been looking for an excuse to get Carlo to build me an 8 stringer, too...

Anybody else involved with this kind of thing locally?

I race bicycles, rather poorly. I've crashed and broken my C4, T5, T6, T7, and L3.  T5 & T7 twice. Used to compete on skateboards, broken my extremities a bunch then, too. I've been real lucky though, so long as I stay active and don't let my musculature go to hell I can avoid surgery.
