Ever wondered what Back In Black would have sounded like if Bon Scott had sung it?

There's quite a few not so convincing versions you can find on YouTube. But this one is done a whole lot better and it actually sounds like Bon.

This version done by Henrik Eriksson was taken down off YouTube.
But the Vimeo link is still working

its quite creepy how good that is

For me this is proof that AI results are just as good as the human input, and the processing of the result by humans afterwards.

This is cool! Reminds me of these guys here

which I first heard in Morocco and have since witnessed live in Brussels. They are Tuaregs from the Sahara region in Mali. Their name Tinariwen means desert in the Tuareg language.

Tuareg blues was a revelation to me when i first heard Cerys Mathews playing it on her radio 2 blues show. I grew up in the middle east so there are certain music motifs that hit me right in the childhood. to hear middle eastern playing combined with electric blues was a marriage made in heaven

Gibson Basses / are 93 T-birds any good?
« on: November 03, 2023, 03:02:33 AM »
I'm looking to invest around £2k in a Gibson bass i can hang on my wall and look at, that will not depreciate in value

I'm looking at this bird on reverb, its a bit  younger than i was hoping for, but also a lot cheaper than I was expecting  is there any reason for this? were mid 90s birds pigs for any reason?

not my usual type of music but ive been enjoying a deep dive into the back catalogue of local busker turned youtube sensation Ren. His strange blend of hip hop and folk is nicely different

a lot of his stuff is autobiographical charting his battles with autoimune disease

I also like the fact that a lot of his tunes are episodic, he comes back to them again and again radically reworking or just entirely  new songs with the same theme

Gibson Basses / Re: How much thunderbird will £3k buy me?

Thank you all,

an RD would fit the bill, I'm a Krist  Novoselic fan which helps,

plus the fact that for many years I thought that the bass that had first blown me away live (Craig Adams in the Mission) was a thunderbird, but it has since turned out to be an RD.

hmmm,

:vader:  wonders if 3k might get an RD and a second hand modern epi bird

Since there's so much love for Bruce here.

I watched Ricky Warwick's tech do that gag with Thin Lizzy and completely lunch it. he even put special white gloves on in preparation, then completely failed to check the momentum and the butt of the guitar slammed into his tuning table and knocked all his shit on the floor. big dink in the guitar too.

We all laughed like drains tho cos the guy had been a real dick to us locals on the load in

The Outpost Cafe / Re: Ten Bands That Should Retire
« on: March 05, 2023, 05:14:59 PM »
Despite being a huge Entwistle fan - he had a huge impact on me as a young bassist - I don't agree the Who (or "The Two") should have retired after Entwistle died. They did some quite good shows on the Endless Wire tour, though it was a very uneven album. The 2019 "Who" album was pretty decent too.  But sometime in the last few years I agree they've really run out of steam as a live group.
That 2010 Super Bowl performance was dreadful.

Thats sad to hear

they are finishing their current tour in my local cricket ground so I'll be helping load them in/out

I was stoked to get to see them (even without the ox)

 now not so much

What to do? Get hold of a 60's Tbird. That's what I would do if I were in your clothes. Go cat, go!

is a 60's bird more in my price range than a bicentennial?* are they the holy grail of T-birds?

It's like waiting for the benefits of BREXIT, which will eventually come, I'm sure.

Thank you, and umm, ouch   :-[

*The bicentennial is one of my earliest memories, at 4 years old I was living in a US airbase in the middle east when suddenly all the yanks went bonkers. I thought it had something to do with buffalo

The Bass Zone / Whats the real name for the "octave pop" funk move ?
« on: March 05, 2023, 04:56:11 PM »
Hi does anyone know the real name for the thing you do (especially in funk) where you bounce between the root and the octave two stings higher

I had it explained to me as the "Octave Pop" years ago and have been calling it that but now I want to reference it in my dissertation and I cant find it as a phrase anywhere on the internet. I think the guy who taught me must have made the name up.

I'm sure it has a real name but I've crapped out how to ask G**gle to tell me
