I don't know much about it really, but I've always looked at being interested in and collecting cars as being in a fairly close second place to being interested in and collecting musical instruments.  I've got close friends, though, who would add motorcycles to that list.

I have 100% of a Jag's problems without actually owning one.

I had a boss who had a Jag  He was always having to have something done to it.  He was a jackass, BTW.

Headstock is ugly yes. I still like Eastwood and what they do.

I love the overall concept of what they're doing.  So far the ones I might have been interested in the most have turned out to be too much of an approximation, especially the EB-1.

It's bad enough that they keep missing the mark on basses people might actually have wanted such as the EB-1 or Newport.  At first it sounds tempting; then you see the results.

It's the headstock difference which bothers me the most.  I still applaud Eastwood for trying to bring back the Newport.

Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings with George Harrison on slide guitar.  This was one of Harrison's last recordings.  Beverley Skeete on vocals.

The Stones without Wyman are a Stones cover band.

I'm not saying the replacement members aren't good.  But I wouldn't want to see the Stones without Bill Wyman or Flleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham.  You couldn't give me the tickets for free.

I saw those guys at a fairly small venue just before they truly exploded.  They were powerhouses!

I never had the pleasure of seeing Grand Funk, but I did catch ZZ Top sometime in between "Rio Grande Mud" and "Tres Hombres."  I would also describe that as a powerhouse performance.

I just happened to run across this the other day in which Mark Farner comments on each of their albums.

Well, it could have always gotten even worse if the dreaded "Mick Taylor was better for the Stones than Ron Wood"-follow up discussion would have reared its ugly head!

BTW, Mick T was a more accurate bass player too as can be heard here (Wyman wasn't at the session for that particular song). You can tell it's Mick because he follows Charlie's bass drum more closely than Bill W ever did.  As if he had thought to himself "I've heard that in other bands, the bassist locks in with the bass drum, perhaps we should try that for once ...".

Not knocking Bill though, he was idiosyncratically great, just not much of a bass drum follower, but not everyone has to be.

Guilty of being a bass drum follower.  But if I could have an idiosyncratic style like Bill Wyman, I wouldn't mind that, either.  I think his unique style added yet another twist to the Rolling Stones sound.  Of course I mostly prefer their earlier stuff and haven't really listened to them much in a very, very long time.

Mel could have told you, Ilan! We're an American mud.

I'm surprised Fender never did a signature model of his Jazz - just because it was a Gibson product replacement pup? As Dave once rightfully said, his bass playing and that "Mazz" (mud & Jazz) sound drove all those early Grand Funk Railroad recordings.

GF(R) aren't even in the RRHF, right? That is a crime. They were among the truest of American bands - and not just because of a song title. Hugely underrated outfit.

I loved the Mel Schacher bass sound.  But the critics were always harsh on GFR.  Especially critical of Mark Farner's guitar playing.  Yet I'd gladly wager that not a single one of them would be capable of playing and singing like he did.  His voice was a big factor in their sound.  And better than the voices of more than a fair number of people in the RRHOF, IMO.

I've even known *really good* guitarists whose timing and/or phrasing sounds terrible on bass.
Even if they can credibly double the bass part on guitar.

There's something non-obvious that just doesn't always translate across the instruments, it takes some dedication to actually be able to play both well.

Your use of the word "translate" makes me think of the example of Spanish and Portuguese.  Just because you're fluent in one doesn't make you fluent in the other.  There are countless nuances that have to be mastered.  The same goes for guitar and bass.  Little things add up and become big things.
