They could at LEAST offer a version without the damage for people who care what their instruments look like!

Ask and you will receive:

Quote from: Gibson
it will only be produced in a very limited run of only 150 guitars — 50 aged to look exactly like Krieger's, and 100 with Gibson Custom's V.O.S. finish treatment.

Looks like it's still $8000, though, even if they don't beat it up.

I'm assuming we all got the same email today but has Roman mentioned that whole different color thing since the first time?

...to check for radioactive decay in the small amount of carbon that is
present in all living organisms.

That made me wince a bit.

That was fun.  They should have done that more often!

Ya think there's just a little Jack Casady influence going on there?

The Bass Zone / Anyone need a Dark Star? (DS3-N SOLD)
February 20, 2009, 11:32:06 AM
Sold.

I'm finally breaking down and getting a Starfire so this is about to get a little redundant.  DS3-N (Fender P, J neck position, etc) with some scuffs on the top from use and a shielded lead from a lawsuit-era 'ho.

$150 shipped/paypaled in the US

(I know I don't post here a whole lot but please don't hurt me.  Lurker until interesting instruments, ya know?  I have some esoteric electronics experiments that I'll post about soon.)

There was a week in June where I played "Mykonos" every morning while making breakfast.

I'm partial to Dr Dog lately.  In the Philly (their hometown) area this summer, it wasn't uncommon to hear the Fleet Foxes and Dr Dog right next to each other on WXPN and at record stores, coffee shops, bookstores...

I think this looks interesting for the bedroom/small jam crowd.  Switchable 15/30 watts.

CLEAN!  I love a good control cavity.

The rest of it's nice, too.  ;) Guild sure did make some pretty basses.

Gibson Basses / Re: Epiphone Explorer scale

Yep, 34" with a big wide neck.

The wide neck, body shape, and scale length add up to a bass that just feels huge.  I have one sitting around that I've been meaning to throw on ebay but I don't know where I'm going to get packing material enough to keep it safe so I've been holding off.

QuoteThe Dark Fire's tone potentiometer and CPA have also been redesigned so that turning the tone knob allows a very intuitive and significant change in tone, thus giving you even more ability to dial in your desired tone.

...but what does that mean?  A different taper to the pot?  An active filter?

What is it other than a Robot Guitar with a piezo, special finish, and a new interface for recording?

Finally some decent information and big clear pictures. If this site has it's numbers in order then it must mean that there's only two Explorer shaped Quad basses in existence and one of them was owned by Entwistle.

It doesn't say if Entwistle's Quad bass was long scale or short scale but with your basses having been re-topped and re-necked it's impossible to say what kind of scale it originally had, the only way to find out would be to take the top off and look for marks of a bridge at a different location and that would mean taking this possibly historic instrument apart.

I'd be more inclined to say that the body was a rough leftover from Quad production than that it used to be a fully completed one.  Quads had that big cannon jack and a lot of meat cut out of the back for all of those electronics:

That would be kind of hard to hide in a refin/retop/reneck/whatever.

On the other hand, I could see a body that had only the pickup routs cut (being that there are very few reasons to place two of the same pickup right next to each other in the middle position) sitting in the corner after Quad production was shelved then getting dug up by someone years later and finished with a current production 4-string neck.

Those Wildwood tops always remind me of the Merry Pranksters' paint-dipping method seen here.

Check it out here (.pdf). Be sure to see the flow chart on page 6.

Save the cauliflower!

I must say that it's a bit long winded but their conclusions are valid if (hopefully) pretty obvious. Think "Leave no trace" meets endangered animal conservation. Don't destroy for the sake of destroying and if you must do genetic modification, try not to kill off the entire species. (think bananas)

The meticulous breakdown of moral considerations in the Brochure, though, remind me a lot of David Foster Wallace's article Consider the Lobster.
