Nice! I recall you talking about a Fenderbird project. You gotta post pics of that when you're done! If I figure out a decent painting solution, I'll do your T bird neck if you like. It only takes me about a half hour to get the neck profile down. The hard part is painting (obviously lol).

Are you picking up a goth bird? If you aren't going to use the neck on it, can I buy it from you? I love the lack of inlays, and I want to do a white bird.

I just find that the girth of my Epi goth bird neck is too much for me. So the other day I decided to whip out the trusty non-directional-orbital-sander (henceforth known as "the jitterbug") and started whacking away at that demonic black paint. I got the neck down to a near-jazz profile, but with the original width of the neck. I took some sandpaper and a soft block and evened out my work, got the neck nice and smooth.

Then came the rough part. Painting.

I bought some automotive flat black, this stuff is NASTEE! It's thick, it runs, and it's very sticky. I don't like it at all. I figured I would take the entire back of the neck down to bare wood and start over. But what paint to use this time? Any suggestions?

I like my girls chunky, not my bass necks. 

A scarf joint on a jazz profile neck? I'm really not suprised you fixed a lot. That's not a lot of surface area lol.

Yeah, I love jazz bass necks, they are perfect IMO. The good thing is, I have plenty of flat black paint to finish the neck after I sand it down a bit. I don't think I'll get it down to a jazz profile, but it is a bit too large for me right now.

Either way, it sounds great in a mix!

I take it the neck profile on a Gibson Tbird is thinner? I've never played one lol.

Would that work? I think the scale is the same, but what about the neck pocket size and yadda yadda. I like the headstock and the profile of the neck, its just a little too chunky for my small sausage hands.

And it sounded HUGE! I ran straight from my BDDI into the desk. Such a firm fundamental note, even with stainless steel strings! I was really suprised on playback how fat it sounded. I'm recording the rest of the album with it, without a doubt.   

I would post soundclips, but we're being top secret about the recording until it's finished.

BAIIs rule. 

GC was cool about returning the bass, so I bought a strap and got pierced to make myself feel better.

On a few different bridges over the years I've had the intonation screw back itself out and get lost. I've lost entire saddles at a gig before. The grub screws for height adjustment are either too long, not long enough, or walking their way out of the saddle.

I really like the profile of the BAIIs as well.

I'm thinking about shaving my Epi Bird's neck down to better resemble the Gibson neck. That sucker is huge!

About my collection. I don't have any American Fenders, nor do I really feel the urge to own one. Here's a list of what I have right now.

2000 MIM Deluxe Jazz (Main player)
Squier VMJ (sweet!)
Frankenbass P/MM (my first relic)
Frankenbass J (with P neck!)
Squier MIK P (best $50 I own)

All of my Fenders have BAII bridges installed. I HATE stock bridges with a passion. They're always falling apart.

I also have 3 Ibanez basses: SR800, SR480 and EDB600.

I've got a soft spot for modern sounding basses. Ibanez is cheap used and fills that gap nicely.

Oh yeah, there's no doubt about it. The bass is going back. I refuse to accept anything less than a perfectly functional bass. Especially with that kind of return policy.
