Finally someone admits to slapping here, errrm, thumbs up you brave minority!

Just went back to my youth, seeing the music man like pickups, used to play Funk in the 80th (even used tape on the thump ;) ). Now it is all old Hippie Rock on my SG With Flats and Tube overdrive  :o but I would love to, one day to be on a stage and play funk fusion on a Gibson  8)

Me to like the natural best, looking forward to a review of the sound, if it is modern sounding, read, can you get a decent modern slap sound out of it, and the difference between humbucker and singlecoil mode.

Hi!

Thank you for all your input about Gibson and slap bass, not that I plan to start a new career  8) as a slap bass player again, but after I have fallen in love with Gibson basses I was just very curious about it's ability to play this genre, because I have never seen any serious funk player use a gibson (apart from the guy on the EB-2 from Finland )
Best "modern" Gibson sound I have heard is Ralph Armstrong playing on Enigmatic Ocean and Live with Jean-Luc Ponty. If you have not heard them give them a listen, I think he uses a G3.

Gibson Basses / Gibson and Slap Bass

Is there a Gibson that has a particular good  slap sound? I have 2 Gibson basses and I love them, but in the 80' I used to play funk on a Music Man Sting Ray. These days I play mostly hippie 60' style on my Gibson SG standard and EB 2 and they sound so much "no Funk" as a Bass can sound, but perfect for the music I play now. Is there any Gibsons that has this funky bite like a Jazz Bass or Music Man?

Hi!

I can recomend you to try the Tech 21 VT Bass Pedal if you have a solid state amp, it works wonders to the sound, it is a SVT emulator, I use it all the time on my Gallien Krueger amp/Mesa Boogie cab setup, It can make everything from deep warm to heavy distorted tube sounds.

Is there a difference in sound between the middle and the right Gibsons? I believe the one to the right is with a maple top and not all mahogany as the Standard in the middle.
