The Last Bass Outpost

Ace was my first "favorite" guitarist. Other guys came along whose chops were objectively "better," but not many of them could write a solo as easily recognized and hummed as Ace did on every KISS album he contributed to (as well as most of his later solo work), especially when he was invested in the project. And that Tom Snyder interview is STILL the best interview that band ever did, both for Ace's drunken mayhem and Gene's utter bewilderment in not being able to run the show like he usually did.

I lost more of what was left of my childhood than I would have expected when Ace left this plane. And I'm realizing that I will miss him as much as any friend I ever had in "real life."

I have also known Dave since 2003 and the Dudepit. I haven't been around here much over the last few years, but Dave and I had a longstanding PM thread on Facebook with another friend of his that swung more toward noting and scoffing at U.S. politics and culture.

Keith, I'm so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed my correspondence with your dad and will miss him even more than I have over the last year when his messages began to wane. I'm glad to have counted him a friend, even if we never did meet in person. Thank you for letting us know and for picking up the baton here. I'm sure that would mean the world to him.

If you have any interest in the Doors this is a pretty good way to spend 20 minutes. I knew some of these names (as will you), but not all. It covers a bunch of other players who contributed to the band's recordings and later live performances.

The new price was probably to cover the improvements. Still a bargain!
