Twitter is a pox upon humanity, even before it's current owner came on.

There are literally thousands of message boards, websites, social media platforms that politics can be discussed on.  Although I am not disagreeing that things are a complete mess right now, this thread is getting old.  Go rant on Twitter if it makes you feel better.  I have started to come here more often to see cool quirky basses (to me), discover new random tunes or bands that people play in, or discover some off the wall obscure random trivia about Deep Purple that Herr Uwe digs up from his memory banks, not see political topics repeated kicked ad-nauseum that could be discussed literally on thousands of other sites/platforms/media.

Quote from: Alanko on March 31, 2025, 04:40:33 AMI think Tobias himself cannot use his own name on instruments now, hence MTD basses?
....
Thru-necked fancy wood basses with Bartolinis and 18-volt preamps are about the opposite of my taste in basses, but these do look rather nice.

You would be correct, he sold the name/IP to Gibson, I read somewhere waaaay back when that at the time he was taken care of pretty well by the deal.

And they do look pretty nice.  I'm not sure about 2K+ US for a made in Indonesia bass, but I wouldn't mind trying one out.  I had a chance to play a gig once with a pre-Gibson Classic 6, and outside of the brain seizing mid-song from playing a 6, it played like butter and sounded great in a mix.

Quote from: Dave W on March 28, 2025, 02:00:22 AMAt those prices, I would guess Korea. That's still Samick headquarters.

True, but the Sweetwater back of headstock shot says "Indonesia".

Apparently made at the Samick factory where Epi and I think I saw Kramer mentioned.

Quote from: gearHed289 on March 27, 2025, 07:37:34 AMSeems like a good idea. At these prices, I wonder where they're manufactured?

According to some TB threads I saw, apparently Indonesia, but I don't see any concrete proof there.

I thought it heart wrenching, as in, my heart (along with brain and eyes) were begging to be wrenched from my body and tossed into the Main  ;D but to each their own opinions and impressions, it's all subjective.  I think she's very creative/talented, regardless...I like some of her music, but some of it I can't stand.

Quote from: morrow on March 12, 2025, 01:14:59 PMNow , I live way off , out on the coast in Nova Scotia. The edge of the planet. No major industry , low population density , no great mineral deposits ... we are not what he's apparently after. I doubt Trump will be sending troops out this way.
Unless he's adding lobsters to his list.
With Trudeau stepping down we have a new Liberal leader , the Conservative candidate is somewhat modelled on the MAGA ideal , I do not want to see that happen here. The new Liberal leader , Carney , is an economist , and seems to realize economic decisions affect people. He seems to have some compassion. I think he'll take the upcoming election. He will stand up to Trump. So I think he's about to become the right guy at the right time.

We'll see soon enough.

I generally completely abstain from discussing politics online whatsoever, but without going any further, this entire situation with Canada has me scratching my head.

Quote from: uwe on March 12, 2025, 01:09:50 PM"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs."

I saw where that was going about seven words in

(totally kidding) Now, according to Herr Uwe, I must go read Atlas Shrugged four times while listening to "YYZ" on endless repeat for my internet forum decorum violation.

Oh my.  My pants just got tighter in certain places.
