The Last Bass Outpost

Hi all!

I've been working on a Gibson Triumph bass my mate brought in. When inspecting we noticed a yellow wire that was just loose in the cavity, only connected on on side to the ground of the jack.

Does anyone know where this wire need to go?

We 'guess' it was going to the bridge as no connection is made there..... yet, the wire is too short to reach the bridge.

On the pic you can spot the wire on the right coming off the jack

I find it kinda disappointing. The unit sounds really muddy......... the OD is not focussed, the range is really small and the clean blend does nothing....... Inside there is a tubescreamer without the clipping diodes (comp cut mode on the fulltones).

Really, really disappointing!

I own an old Gibson Mudbucker that was also barely 1k but it keeps up with the other basses!

No low output, just like a mud but with a lot more clean air. And a very tight E

Just to bump this topic a bit

I also got one of these amps! Got it for free and the only fee was the gas

Hooked it up and noticed that the volume knob was shot. Repaired the ground lift and now the amps works pretty fine!

Must say I really love the vintage-y feeling I get from this amp! It sounds really Ampeg, that same low mid rumble I LOVE. Also has a lot of power but the speaker is the weakest link. When I hook the unit up to my other cabs it's really powerfull!

Gotta love these old Ampeg SS's! They look cool and sound really close to the real deal!

Could you describe the sound like a humbucker? Like in the setting with both coils on, does the volume and mids raise or go down when compared to when one of the coils is turned down?

Can anyone comment on how the newer Danelectro's are wired up? Are they the same or are they wired up like the Seymour Duncan page shows, both in parallel?

Every time someone says they have a Dano with two pickups in series but the volumes are separately controlled, I tell them that can't be a straight series circuit. Now this makes sense.

+1! It is not a 100% pure series set but it works kinda like it. And the sound you get from it is awesome

One of the nice things you can do with this circuit is turn down the tone on the bridge pickup and make the signal slightly bassy but not that much....... A really nice touch! And very workable!

I think I finally figured it out from staring at some gut shots! It works like a charm....... been tinkering over it for a couple of days.

It works like it should. When both volumes are max the unit is in series. When one of the volumes are dimed the coils turn single . Tone works for seperate coils. Volume is 100k, tone is 1M. Caps are 100n

I am looking for the correct way a Danelectro Longhorn bass was wired up from the factory. As I understand it was wired as a humbucker (both coils in series) when both were on......

Right now I tried several things but I can't cope or find anything on this....... anyone here has an idea?

Quite a nice little (PASSIVE!!!!) circuit that works so fine in a bass or as a standalone

Wanting to add this to a bass........ still, what bass.........

Several Japanese companies made short scale Tele guitar style basses in the 70s. They do pop up occasionally in shops or on eBay.

Hofner also made the Model 186 which was Tele shaped (and short scale) but had an odd pickguard and squared off control plate.

That Hofner is beautifull........ some sort of that would be my ideal garage bass...........

A few days ago I was wanting a telecaster bass, a real telecaster bass........ I love my telecaster for guitar but haven't seen a real bass version of it.....

My eyes fell on this Jolana version and I tried to get a hold of but she later went for a rediculous price.
