Fender Basses / Re: New Clayton sig

'66 is dots and binding. There never was a blocks without binding period.
I dig the dots & binding look - Fender Japan had a limited edition '66 Jazz Bass reissue when I was living there around 2005 maybe, was very tempted. I think I could get into the blocks & no binding too - is it even that visible that there isn't binding?

Another nice remembrance of Jack: http://classicrock.teamrock.com/news/2014-10-29/jack-bruce-1943-2014
Very nice!

I've been listening to the box set "Those Were the Days" and re-reading the liner notes. I think my favorite track is the live version of N.S.U. - the box set has the complete unedited version - there are other live tunes too where I might not be a huge fan of the song ("I'm So Glad," etc.) but the jamming they do on it is just amazing. The idea of them being a jazz band behind their blues guitarist makes so much sense.

Nice! I have a new band going, and I've been thinking that I would like to do some of the subdivision jamming that Cream was so good at. Will have to keep working on it! And actually, you've inspired me to play "As You Said" at temple today!

RIP Jack. We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to his musical legacy. Rock and Roll wouldn't have been the same without him.
Yes - to me he changed what the bass guitar was seen as capable of. A huge influence on me - I'm glad I heard about it here at the Outpost.

Fender Basses / Re: Mexican Rascal
« on: October 10, 2014, 10:01:37 AM »
I wonder if the stock strings are just the stock Fender long scales? I've been using them on my AlFeMbic and like them, thinking I might switch to something a bit lower tension though. On the Rascal with the Guild bridge I would be willing to be that long scale would work...

Played the Rascal at practice last night and it sounded great.  The 5 way is a really nice touch.  It sounds like a much more expensive bass to my ear.  Nothing cheapo about its tone or output.  As before, very easy to play and my band mates really like the look and sound of it.  Being the short scale addict that I am, I'll be gigging with it for sure.  Finally, a keeper!  I've turned over a lot of Fenders that didn't play or sound as I expected, but I really am pleased this bass.
Glad it's working out! Did you try the "all three" & "neck & bridge" positions? Those were my favorites, though I didn't get to hear them in a band setting.

Someone could build a new bass around it...

For a company known for the Flying V, that's a confusing name...

I have to admit, I really love the 4080 - don't ever see myself owning one but have imagined using it on certain songs to switch back & forth between bass & guitar...

Like that very much! I used to lust over the Destroyer as a kid in the '80s.

I've been kind of wanting Activators for my Ric since I bought my Alembic Distillate. Easily the best sounding active system I've ever heard. Finally got to play it through my amp at a rehearsal with my new prog rock project. Listened to the recordings and WOW! Wicked tone...

The Fender is looking great Harry!
Glad you are getting along with the Distillate so well! There's always been a part of me that wanted to put Activators in one of my Rics - the 8-string comes to mind - but I love the stock Ric sound too.

The transformation is complete! Finally cleaned off the carport roof and snapped a few outdoor shots:
