Gary, I too get a bit of arthritis in my hands and the top joint on my little finger (left hand) now doesn't straighten properly. I've modified my playing to suit (a bit) but what I find strange in the best possible way is that the more I play the less painful my hands are over a given period of time. I know everyone is different but ... just sayin'.
I would guess that the changes in your life are probably a bigger issue to you atm. I can understand your new focus. Best of luck with it mate.

I have a Foghat DVD, "Foghat LIVE two centuries of boogie". It must have been one of the last performances before Lonesome Dave passed away. He died ten years ago or so, that makes me feel old.....

Nice segue back to topic Grog  ;)

Do not think that this is a copy of the very gibsonovskoy model. No, ....

That whole ...erm...translation (probably too strog a word to use after reading it  ;D ) is pure comedy gold.

Advice to all...
Just go listen to Foghat Live - you'll feel a lot better.

As it happens I was going through a Foghat phase last week. I get to listen to a lot of music due to an hours drive along a freeway between home and work each day. Last weeks feature band was Foghat. Albums played included:
Foghat
Energized
Rock and Roll Outlaws
Fool for the city
Tight Shoes (yes I actually played the whole album)
and of course LIVE.

I guess this just proves my Oldness  :)

Cant wait to hear how the new guitarist is fitting in. +1 about it being in the air. My project band members were finalised yesterday and we start workshopping and developing song ideas on the 30th of Jan for recording late April. This time with improved vocals

At work, one of the 20-somethings asked me "so what's slap bass?" And ths first thing I thought to say was "it's like... you know theme to Night Court?"

Blank stare...
I couldn't think of anything recent enough.

I felt old.

Topic successfully bridged!

You should have said Seinfeld even if its really a DX7. Or is that too old also?  :)

OK, I'll play.

I've been helping my mum sort through her recently departed husband's stuff (my stepfather) and one of the treasures is the first 3 editions of Australian Playboy magazine - which was first published in 1979.  Naturally (pun intended) I had a quick browse through the magazines, and am really tempted to show them to the 20-something guys in my band to freak them out - all the women in the Playboys have untended, wild gardens.  I bet that would scare the crap out of young guys today.

Not to mention (blasphemy of blasphemies) Round hips!!  (Sorry Mark H .....just sayin... ;) )

I'm the same age as you Denis but my wife is only 7 years younger than me. I always support the adage that you are only as old as the woman you feel.

From the D’Addario page:
 "Description
EXPR165 Reds react much like a standard electric bass guitar string where the outer wire is highly magnetic, but the copper coating imparts a more “acoustic” tone on basses with magnetic and/or piezo pickups. The EXP coating protects the copper windings from corrosion and premature wear.

To me thats not stating that its a string made for acoustic basses but a string for all basses that has a more acoustic sound to it.
