I think the bass body and guitar body are the same. If they'd skip the routings for the pickups and drill holes for the bridge you'd be all set.

If that's not an aftermarket neck, then IMHO it's from an Asian bass, not custom made.
With 24 frets and the edge cut off just in the right angle to fit the neck pocket, plus the heel on the backside sanded to shape too? No way.

I don't see what's so awful about this. Unless you think a Fenderbird is awful too. It's an original idea and well executed.

The neck is not a generic aftermarket neck. I have never seen a Fender type neck with 24 frets. It doesn't look like they glued a triangular part with two extra fret on. So it looks custom to me.

That said, I wouldn't want it for that kind of money.

What 's the point in re-recording and changing nothing essentially?
No wonder it flopped big time. They were competing their own hit.

Plus the original has a youthful energy that the new version lacks. Listen  to the bass part. The new one is simplified a bit and lost it's charm.

About Bepop Deluxe: wow is that Prog Ska?  ;D
Wonder if The Police were big fans...

I have that concert on DVD.
It struck me how good the audio and video quality is. Could have been taped yesterday (except for their wardrobe ;) )

He's obviously making a statement here that the LP sig is the superior over the Epi. Otherwise he would have taken an Epi off the shelf.
Unless the video was filmed before the Epi was released...

The Bass Zone / GOV’T MULE WELCOMES NEW BASS PLAYER: Jorgen Carlsson

GOV’T MULE WELCOMES NEW BASS PLAYER

New Bassist Jorgen Carlsson To Debut on Fall Tour

Balancing evocative songs and expressive improvisation, Gov't Mule is a band rooted in both the personal and musical chemistry between its members. "It's not one of those groups that can make a change overnight," explains founding guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes. It is only after six months of rehearsing, jamming, and hanging out with bassist Jorgen Carlsson that he has been added to the band as their new permanent bass player, replacing Andy Hess, who joined in 2003.

When founding bassist Allen Woody passed away in 2000, Haynes explains, "We were faced with the daunting task of replacing a one-of-a-kind musician, which I'm sure was intimidating for Andy, who did a wonderful job and brought his own personality into the music. Jorgen's style is somewhere between Woody's and Andy's. He brings some of Woody's aggressive spirit back although he is very much his own man." Carlsson was born in Sweden and has been active as a session musician and studio owner since arriving in the US in 1991.

Founded by Haynes, Woody, and drummer Matt Abts in 1994 as a power-trio, Gov't Mule has, over the course of eight studio albums, several more live projects, and over 1300 concert performances, built both an extensive, evolving body of work and a devoted fan base. In addition, the band has sold 1.5 million downloads on its website mule.net, sold over one million albums, and received a Grammy nomination. Keyboardist Danny Louis joined as a full-time member in 2003. With Hess leaving to pursue other opportunities, Haynes sees the addition of Jorgen as connecting the past and future of Gov't Mule: "Having worked with Jorgen over the last several months, we are very excited to explore some new directions while at the same time going back a little closer to our roots."

On September 16th, Gov't Mule will release the double live DVD The Tale of Two Cities, which spans the entire preceding era of the band with Andy Hess on bass. It is composed of two complete shows filmed the first date of the fall 2004 Deja Voodoo tour and the last date of the winter 2006 High and Mighty tour.

Gov't Mule's Kinder Revolution fall tour begins on October 30 and runs through November 22nd, and includes performances on Halloween at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, two night stands at the Pantages Theater in Minneapolis and the Fillmore in San Francisco, shows at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, the Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford, CT, and more. Following the tour, Gov't Mule will, for the seventh year in a row, celebrate the new year with a series of performances in New York City: two acoustic shows on December 27th and 28th at the Angel Orensanz Center in the Lower East Side, then two electric shows at the Hammerstein Ballroom on December 30th and 31st, with the New Years' Eve show featuring the traditional three sets.

Looks good indeed.

But a whole lot different from what a Greco Tbird looks like.
The pickups are different.
The headstock doesn't have a raised plastic overlay.
Is there a raised center piece? Can't really tell from the picture.
Bridge is different. Looks like a two point bridge.

Here's a pic of my Greco:

If it's basicly the same as the Greco Tbird it is an excellent take on the Sixties Thunderbird IV.
Greco is the Ibanez brandname for the domestic market.

My Greco is a set neck. Full Mahogany. The neck is wider / chunkier than the Gibson original.

I like your approach of building Gibson basses that Gibson forgot to build (S1, Moderne)!

Keep 'm coming  (an L-6s maybe?)

P.S why don't you make the S1 a short scale? The bridge plus tailstop will fit better with the controlplate if they're a bit futher towards the neck IMHO.

Cool project!
What kind of wood are you using? Is that Honduras Mahogany or is it Korina?

Q:    Hi very interested ,not really for the bass itself but the Chas link Can you e mail me all the relevant info and any details Thanks a lot   Sep-06-08
A:    Hi. Not got much to tell really. When we split up in Germany, Noel and I went to Town to see Chas and Jimi, Noel...as he was a reasonable lead guitarist was auditioning for the new reformed Animals II and I was auditioning as Jimi's new bassist. I didn't want the job so Jimi asked Noel if he could play bass. Well he could because I showed him a few riffs and runs in Germany where we used to regularly swap instruments. He liked Noel and his big hair do and he took the job. I travelled around with them for a while as guitar techy bloke then went back to Manchester to join another rock band to to France. So there we have it. If you want a depressing read, get hold of Noel's book 'Are You Experienced'. This book wholeheartedly confirms that my decision not to have joined The Jimi Hendrix Experience was the correct decision. That may give you a bit more info, I'm mentioned half a dozen times in it. I cant recall much abut Chas, it was Jimi who was in sharp focus in those days. Cheers. Kevin Lang.

So the seller declined for the job as Jimi Hendrix bass player and still thinks he made the right decision to this very day?? What a nut case.
