I like how they say you should clean your guitar each time you change strings, and that taking the strings off allows better access to the fingerboard, and then in the next section that you should clean your fretboard only 1 or 2 times per year...  :o

Nice words from Geddy Lee: "Simply put, he was one of the greatest rock bassists of all time." Kind of surprised that they never met.

What a beautiful bass! I've been enjoying the pictures on Instagram & Facebook but posting here. I love black trim and that white is really nice. My first and most beloved Ric is a '76 - the late-'70s Rics seem to be overlooked sometimes but love mine!

How do you find the pickup strength? Mine are very low output but I love the sound of them.

Shocked and saddened by this - his aggressive playing style and use of distortion & effects were huge influences on me. Between him and Andy Fraser this has been a rough year for rock bassists - two of my biggest inspirations.

By the time I watched it, I had already read your comments about how nervous you were, but even given that, you don't seem nervous at all! I was really impressed! Here are my favorite lines:

"If I had a bridge for a Fender I'd be rich"

GOT: [words to the effect of] "It makes it so you can play in tune"
Commentator: "So it changes the sound"
GOT: "No, it makes the bass play in tune"

Commentator: "We bow to you"
GOT: "Oh no, that's not necessary, throw money though!"

Yeah, this was really shocking and sad.

I had this instructional video when I was in high school - brings back great memories mixed with sadness at the loss...

Looks great with that finish, glad it's sounding good too - have you used the deep hard switch?  8)

I'm jealous of your amp rig by the way!

I never knew much about Craig Gruber - I loved his playing on that Rainbow album but that was early on in my listening and way before the internet so I never really dug around, never knew the Elf connection until recently. Had no idea about the Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell album connection either.

Haven't been here in a while but I have a soft spot for the M-85. Plus, if you're going to come back might as well come back with a bang! It's not a bari-switch, it's the DEEP-HARD TONE SWITCH!

This pic came from a JS-2 that was on sale at some point a few years ago.

I think you are probably right, he probably had no racist intention at all, but the term itself is racist - my mom was Japanese and I work in a predominantly Japanese-American community and it still brings a lot of pain to hear the term used. But trust me, I see a lot of reverse racism too so when I hear JAs using racist Japanese terms against white people, etc., I call them on it too!

No need to be racist

Just found more detailed info:  (I'm not really trying to promote Palladia, although I guess it might look like it.)

Palladia's Classic Thanksgiving Weekend
THURSDAY 11/27 through SUNDAY 11/30 -- Celebrate Thanksgiving with Palladia! We're bringing you 4 full days of nothing but concerts & docs from your favorite classic artists. Featuring 4 EPIC premieres including Eric Clapton: Trains, Planes and Eric on Thursday 11/27 at 8pm; Pretenders Live in London on Friday 11/28 at 8pm. Then back-to-back premieres of Super Duper Alice Cooper & Alice Cooper's Night of Fear on Saturday 11/29 starting at 8pm.

I don't get Palladia, so I try and catch things like this on VH1 Classic - they play some good stuff though it's not HD. HOWEVER, AT&T U-Verse sometimes gives access to the paid channels like HBO over Thanksgiving Weekend so I make sure to try and record stuff I want to watch - I have watched Palladia that way before but not sure if it will be included this year.

The Super Duper Alice Cooper thing is definitely worth watching though - nice treatment of the early years, they don't go as heavy into the later years as the VH1 "Behind the Music" did, and they touch on the relationship between Alice & Dennis Dunaway.

And I also liked how many shots of the guitarist's pedal board were shown - don't see that too often?

Yup - bass sounds great! I love the way the bass strings look with the slow motion effect!
