he has never seen a photo of Ace with the Alive costume playing one.  Too cool!

I didn't even catch that! I've only seen him in the Destroyer costume with an Explorer and/or Ibanez Destroyer. The Ibanez had a black pickguard.

Nice shots!

Are those folded horns behind him?  For some reason I always thought he used the standard Ampeg 8x10s

He switched to those folded horns for the ALIVE! tour and kept them at least through ALIVE! II. Good technology for a PA system at the time, terrible for a bass rig.

So you know Mike Redmond?  Funny how Off Broadway has become a conglomeration of the old Off Broadway and Pez Band.

Funny how you knew just who I was talking about! Yeah, played with him when I was 15. Did my first bar gig at B'Ginnings at that time. He got me a smokin deal on my first Ric when he worked at Soundz Music.

I still remember when Tommy Aldridge was in a Chicago band called D'Thumbs.  He was selling himself off of his days in Black Oak Arkansas, and was reportedly getting $500/week, with the stipulation that he only did 1 90 minute set any night they played.  Great band, but Aldridge wasn't all that. The band finally morphed into Off Broadway later.  Future Cheap Trick bassist Jon Brandt was in D'Thumbs.

Wow, I didn't know he was in d'Thumbs. They were kind of just before my time. I was in high school when the Off Broadway record came out. I was in a band with a guitarist that was a huge fan boy and he played me a tape of the original version of Full Moon. He's actually IN Off Broadway now. LOL!

Loved Aldridge with the Pat Travers Band. That live record kicks ass. Mars Cowling!

According to the DVD booklet, they got Gary Moore to fill in after the slashed hand incident. I DO remember reading about Midge Ure playing with them at some point. What a strange combo??? I like old Ultravox.........

To me, it's all about the neck's back profile being comfortable. I've played some smaller necks that weren't comfortable at all.

+1!

I had a Warmoth 8 string neck for a while and it was the most uncomfortable neck I ever owned. The width was identical to a P bass, but the back was very fat. I've got long fingers, but it still was a pain to play. Whereas I played a '57 P bass reissue and the neck was awesome.

Saw them opening for Queen at MSG in 1978 (if memory serves - gotta look for the ticket stub). Note Gary Moore on guitar...

I was just reading about that in the LaD DVD booklet last night. Guess there was a falling out between Phil and Robbo around that time, hence the 3 piece photo on the cover of Bad Reputation.

So who knows anything about Phil's rig? I see an Acoustic rig as well as what looks like a Marshall head on a 215. Nice combo!

They've been doing this on and off for several years now with a rotating rhythm section. I don't know if I'd pay to see this. New Blue Murder would be much cooler. Funny, I'm in a huge Lizzy mode right now. A friend of mine just sent me the "Still Dangerous" and "UK Tour '75" CDs. And my Live and Dangerous DVD should be here tomorrow. I have a bug up my ass to learn the whole live album. I can sing a pretty good Phil, but could never write like that guy. What a loss.

Nice work Epi! That's a killer looking bass. Pretty much a factory Fenderbird with the bolt-on maple neck and TB pups.

A question for those who have received their bass, how are the tuners?  Are they solid or has anyone replaced them?

They look kind of cheesy and I found myself tuning more than usual at the gig the other night. Pretty sure I'll be putting some Hipshot Ultralights and a D tuner on there soon.

So I took the B-bird out last night. Played the whole show with it. It's a hit! The neck is dreamy and it's light with that thin body. The tone with a single TB+ is great, pick or fingerstyle. Pretty one dimensional, but excellent nonetheless. Switching from fingers to pick is about the best way to alter the tone. I often solo the neck pup (on a two pup bass) and roll down the tone control for a boomier sound or vintage thump, but this bass seemed to get lost in the mix volume-wise when I tried that a couple of times. I was really comfortable with the bass. And it looks like nothing else out there. For a total of $392 US (including shipping and wire transfer fees), I'd say I'm pretty lucky.

Anyone putting witch hats on as well?

You betcha! I have black speed knobs on there now. Going to horrible GC this weekend. With any luck they'll have some.

I think all here appreciate all you have done in making a "Dream bass" a reality.

For some the dream can not get here soon enough!

Dream bass... I was thinking that last night after I dropped the chrome covered TB+ in there. Tis a cool beast. Breakin it in tonight at McGee's on Webster in Chicago.

You're not listening closely enough - go buy the first two albums. A nearly perfect combination of blues, soul, rock and pop. Never mind that Paul Rodgers could just be the best all-around rock vocalist ever.
I have no axe to grind with the Foo Fighters, but I think their 15 minutes is just about up.

Nah, I appreciate them more now, but when I was in high school I thought they were pretty bland. Simon Kirke is rock solid, and I do like the stuff Boz did.

FF - 15 minutes? They've been making records for 14 years and have done pretty well for themselves.  :)

I'm sure Uwe will be pleased too  ;)

Yep! Thanks for the encouragement Mark!
